2. What is diabetes?
Type 1 diabetes is when the body (in a special organ called the pancreas) can’t produce insulin any more

3. Insulin is
a special chemical that enables the body to use sugar as energy. It is essential for the brain, muscles and all organs to function properly

4. The Pump
Is a special piece of technology that allows delivery of insulin into people with diabetes.
(because their bodies can’t produce insulin anymore)

5. A child with diabetes will need to do
blood tests
injections or use a pump
know what hypos are and how to treat them
may need snacks during lessons or exams
