3 What should you say? Do you really struggle with words? $ $$$$$$$$

4 Today, we’re going to teach you how to talk about prices.

5 1) It cost a fortune. This talk about something that is very expensive.
Do you go to concerts? How are the tickets? Are they like cheap? No, they usually cost us a fortune, right? $2000

6 2) It cost an arm and leg. Let’s talk about the origin of this phrase first.
A century or so ago, the painters used to charge a lot for paintings. It was a trend at that time that a painting till the shoulders including the head was really cheap.

7 The painting until the waist was the second one in price and a painting
until your feet was the most expensive. So, following that comes “It cost an arm and leg”. Something which is very expensive.

8 Auctioneer:. I’m at $4,000 and I want $5,000, $5,000,
Auctioneer: I’m at $4,000 and I want $5,000, $5,000, bid on $5,000, I’m at $4,000 would you go $5,000, $5,000 ….. Thank you sir. Final bid $5,000, $5,000. Thank you…thank you. Bidder: What? $5,000 for a small vase? It cost an arm and leg.

9 3) That’s a rip off. If something is so expensive that you have to pay a lot of money for it, that’s a rip off. E.g. Once I got a pen from China and that pen was $100. I showed my best friend. The pen looked cool. $100

10 My friend showed me another pen that she bought from a local market.
It’s $20 only. OMG! That’s a rip off. I I was cheated because it was not worth the money. $20

11 4 It was dirt cheap. Dirt cheap as it says means that something which is as cheap as dirt. Meaning: – very cheap – almost free – at an extremely low cost – quite inexpensive Be careful when you buy dirt cheap clothes. The colours could run when you wash them.
