14-16 17-19 20-22 You have described what happens in a Rite of Passage. You are suggesting simple meanings for the different actions in the rite of passage. You have explained a rite of passage using key concepts in your answer. You have included several relevant examples of what happens in the rite of passage, in your description. You are explaining the meaning of the different actions in the rite of passage. You have accurately and in detail explained a rite of passage using key concepts to develop your answer. You have included several accurately explained examples in your description, referring to more than one religion. You have shown an understanding of the importance of the rite of passage to the religious believer. Top Tip for Success! Go through mark scheme – ask: what are the differences between the different Steps? Get pupils to look up their baseline step. Pupils to reflect on their last target from Baseline test. Task one… Describe and explain the importance of a religious rite of passage. You may choose a initiation, wedding or funeral. You will need to describe what happens in this ceremony and then explain why this is an important event for a religious community. You will need to try to link in concepts you have learned about this unit.

5 Task 1 Rites of Passage Assessment Chosen rite of passage: Marriage
Describe what happens (say what you see, make sure you are clear which religion you are writing about) What does it mean? Explain why it is important to the people who follow that religion. Does it link to a specific concept? Name of religion: The white symbolises purity and that she is ready for the commitment of marriage. The bride is dressed up in white…. Christianity Teacher led modelling on board – ask for pupils to supply the aspect of rite of passage and the meaning and the concept. Teacher write a paragraph on the board using pupils to help. Teacher highlights benefits of using particular words/connectives.
