Objective: SWBAT describe how water is cycled throughout an ecosystem.
Bell Work A bird receives protection from a hippopotamus while standing on the hippo's back and eating parasites. This is an excellent example of: mutualism 2. commensalism parasitism friendship

What is the purpose of the material cycles in an ecosystem?
Bell Work Take out your succession “essay.” Take out you material cycle notes from yesterday. Copy and Answer What is the purpose of the material cycles in an ecosystem?
3
Objective: SWBAT describe how water is cycled throughout an ecosystem.
Material Cycles In a self-sustaining ecosystem, materials must be constantly cycled between organisms and the abiotic environment. Therefore... these same materials can be reused over and over again.

5
Objective: SWBAT describe how water is cycled throughout an ecosystem.
Water Cycle involves the processes of photosynthesis, transpiration, evaporation and condensation, respiration, and excretion
6
Objective: SWBAT describe how water is cycled throughout an ecosystem.
7
Objective: SWBAT describe how carbon is cycled throughout an ecosystem.
Bell Work: List some parts of the carbon and oxygen cycle.
8
Objective: SWBAT describe how carbon is cycled throughout an ecosystem.
Carbon-Oxygen Cycle involves the processes of respiration and photosynthesis. Photosynthesis- carbon dioxide + water → sugar + oxygen Respiration- Oxygen + sugar → ATP carbon dioxide and water Each process compliments the other and the ecosystem maintains its balanced communities.
9
Objective: SWBAT describe how carbon is cycled throughout an ecosystem.

Objective: SWBAT describe how carbon is cycled throughout an ecosystem.
Bell Work Write the chemical and word equations for photosynthesis and respiration.

Nitrogen Cycle Nitrogen is needed for the production of proteins
Nitrates (used by plants) Build plant proteins Eaten by animals made into animal proteins Plants and animals die bacteria decay- break nitrogen molecules down Nitrates (used by plants)

Regents Question Why would a farmer see less and less of a harvest each subsequent year, if he used the same field?
14
Organic molecules- have both carbon(C) and hydrogen(H) together
Inorganic Molecules- can have carbon(C) or hydrogen(H), but not both together Ex: H2O CH4 C6H12O6
