High Pressure Vessels Part 1 4 Polymerization reactors 2x25 mL, 2x100 mL
2
High pressure reactors should only ever be operated by trained person
Operation Conditions – 100 mL reactor High pressure reactors should only ever be operated by trained person
3
Operation Conditions Pressure: 200 Bar Volume: 100 mL
Operating temperature: from -10 °C to 350 °C Year built: 2012 These are maximum reaction conditions, for safety keep within 2/3 of these values 25 mL reactor, 6 mL of monomer to be used 100 mL reactor, 15 mL monomer to be used
4
Operation Conditions – 100 mL reactor
The seal is formed by the metal groove and the PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) O-ring Note that the O-ring can easily be replaced
5
Split-Ring Clamps
6
High Pressure Vessels - Remember to tighten screws on opposing sides of the split-ring clamps such that the reactor remains balanced - Do not over tighten screws
7
Reactor Front High Pressure Vessels Pressure Gauge
Plug for thermocouple Needle valves for pressurising and depressurising reactor
8
Reactor Back High Pressure Vessels Mag drive
is attached to the overhead stirrer Burst disc Injection port covered by rubber septum Injection valve (in closed position) Thermocouple plug
9
Controller Unit High Pressure Vessels Thermocouple temperature
High limit alarm Required temperature Controller ON/OFF switch Heater ON/OFF switch Stirrer speed regulator Motor ON/OFF switch
10
Safety High Pressure Vessels
No lone working is permitted Be sure that the CO2 cylinder is securely fastened. Periodical leak test in the CO2 regulator, lines and reactor. Use personal protective equipment PPE (specs, gloves, coat). Be always aware of the vessel temperature and pressure! Don’t inject your reaction mixture into the pressurized reactor. Let someone know if you are unable to open or tighten the reactor. Let someone know if you have noticed any problem with the temperature, pressure or reactor.
