Anthology Poetry – lesson eight English Literature Paper 2 – 2 hours 15 minutes . What do these words mean? Find out for homework and start a “Poetry Glossary”. Emotive – something that makes you feel a particular emotion Empathy- when someone understands what someone else is experiencing or feeling. End-stopping – finishing a line of poetry with the end of a phrase or sentence. Enjambment – when a sentence of phrase runs over from one line or stanza to the next. Euphemism- An indirect word or phrase used instead of something upsetting or offensive. First person- When a poet writes about themselves or their group, using words like “I”, “my”, “we” and “our” Form- the type of poem, eg; a sonnet or a ballad, and its features, like number of lines, rhy,e and rhythm. Free verse – Poetry that doesn’t rhyme andf has no regular rhythm or line length. Half-rhymes- Words that have a similar, but not identical, end sound. Eg; “crisp” and “grasp”. Homonyms- words that are spelgt and pronounced the same, but have different meanings – eg; “tissue” Bronze– identify skills required in the exam Silver – understand what the examiner will be looking for Gold – Interpret a poem from the anthology Platinum – Analyse a poem from the anthology, considering your own interpretation of it.
