1 Cardiovascular Testing for High School Students
The health and safety of your child is our priority Wimbledon Health Partners is the industry leader in on-site cardiovascular diagnostic testing for athletic programs and physicians

2 Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA)
SCA is caused by an abnormality in the heart’s electrical system or structure that abruptly stops the heartbeat SCA is the leading cause of death on school campuses SCA is the #1 medical cause of death in young athletes Every 2-3 days in the US, a young athlete dies from SCA For 80% of kids, SCA will be the first sign something is wrong Sports physicals are not enough to prevent SCA Young athletes typically do not show symptoms, or do not know what they are experiencing is a symptom Students often do not know their family history, or parents themselves are unaware they have a heart condition that has been passed down Pre-participation screening only catches 3-15% of cardiac problems

3 WHP Cardiovascular Testing
Cardiac tests—EKG and echocardiogram— identify heart conditions that can cause SCA EKGs detect electrical heart abnormalities Echoes detect structural and functional heart abnormalities The two tests must be performed in conjunction with one another to catch all conditions Vascular ultrasound identifies vascular conditions to which athletes are prone Several factors put the athlete at risk for blood clots Traveling long distances by plane, bus, or car Dehydration Any trauma to the extremities Immobilization (brace or cast), etc. Tests are non-invasive and involve no radiation

4 Cost of Testing WHP will bill the student’s insurance provider for testing services performed WHP accepts what carrier deems usual and customary WHP does not bill the difference between provider’s charge and allowed amount As required by law, any outstanding deductible and/or co-insurance will be billed WHP can offer a payment plan or eliminate the balance entirely for those in genuine financial hardship situations WHP’s priority is the health and safety of your child, not causing you financial harm Our Customer Relations team is available to verify your benefits and can tell you how you might qualify to receive testing at little to no cost. Call (855)

5 Considerations You will likely receive multiple Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) from your carrier These are not bills! These statements may indicate you owe a specific amount, but that is not the case EOBs may be received for multiple companies for the same services, but know the administration of tests and reading of test results are considered two services Funds may be automatically deducted from HSA, FSA, and HRA accounts if a balance is due, even if a hardship waiver has been submitted If you have one of these accounts, check with your insurance provider or call WHP Customer Relations at (855) to find out how these accounts may be affected

6 Why Your Child Should Be Tested
Preventative testing can protect your child PPEs do not catch all underlying cardiovascular conditions Students often do not exhibit recognizable symptoms indicating a heart problem Many cardiovascular conditions are inherited, but parents may be unaware they have the gene Early detection is key to saving lives Cardiac tests can identify potentially life-threatening conditions before SCA happens Vascular ultrasound can identify blood clots before they become life-threatening pulmonary embolisms Awareness of potential issues allows you to be proactive about your child’s health With knowledge, measures can be taken to manage, monitor, treat, or cure a cardiovascular condition Having peace of mind is worth it!
