Client Management Architecture Today: Two solutions
Managed clients Infrastructure Enterprise Management Solution MDM Infrastructure Silo Administration Experience Server & PC management Mobile device management In many organizations we are already seeing how mobile device management is having to be addressed in a dedicated silo where the administrators are having to use specialized small scale MDM solutions to help address the BYOD challenge in a reactive tactical manner. Ultimately this inefficient and limited approach will not provide a long term answer to the problem. With this release of Windows Intune and Configuration Manager Microsoft is addressing the problem in a strategic manner that provides a scalable and efficient solution for the long term.
9
With this Release Windows Intune is…
a unified device management solution that combines cloud and on-premise capabilities creating a premium offering that provides customers with scalability and infrastructure choice for their device management needs. With this release Microsoft has a strategic direction that offers a truly unified management solution utilizing the best of on-premises and cloud-based capabilities.

Unified device management
ConfigMgr SP1 + Windows Intune Cloud Service Empower users through device choice Windows 7, Vista, XP Windows To Go Mac OS, Android (via EAS) iOS Unify Infrastructure Simplify Administration For customers who have relatively much larger or more complex IT environments, who need to deeply manage on-premise PCs and also touch remote devices, or who already have an existing Config Mgr installation, we recommend a this infrastructure. They will be able to deeply manage their existing Windows clients, plus Windows 8 devices, as well as Windows To Go, Macs, Linux/Unix servers through Systems Center on-premise installation. They will also have access to the existing Windows Intune cloud infrastructure to remotely manage other Windows 8, Windows RT, and Windows Phone 8 devices, as well as iOS. Android devices, via the Exchange ActiveSync service are managed by ConfigMgr. Again, customers are able to choose the right client for their needs without sacrificing management and security. This structure allows them to easily outsource the management of remote devices to a Microsoft partner located throughout the world if they wish, while keeping on-premise device management in-house. With this setup, Config Mgr and the Windows Intune cloud service gives customers Unified cloud and on-premise management Full Windows 8 management through Config Mgr Mac OS clients through Config Mgr OS Deployment through Config Mgr The administrative experience is based entirely in the Config Mgr console, so the customer is also here able to manage all of those devices in a single pane of glass.
