May 2001 Summary for DFS New management messages are added to allow STAs to measure RSSI (current frequency channel) RSSRI (new frequency channel) BSS, QBSS, CCA busy fraction, CCA busy interval, CCA busy duration and Foreign PLCP Headers Measurement reports Allow AP to determine if IEEE802.11h, HiperLAN/2 or other sources of interference exist in the frequency channel Allows flexibility for AP vendors to do proprietary measurements and make decisions concerning frequency channel changes Aachen Univ, Cisco, Nokia and Philips

May 2001 Summary for TPC Service Field transmit power field allows easy estimation of path loss Power capabilities are conveyed by a STA during Association BSS Power ceiling is conveyed in Beacon DCF Suggested maximum power level for STAs Hidden node detection suggested in IEEE /219r0, which will: alllow STAs determine power autonomously, if desired allow APs determine an appropriate suggested max power level PCF STAs decide power autonomously Improve battery life Improve QoS Aachen Univ, Cisco, Nokia and Philips

May 2001 Late Development The proposal in IEEE /169r2 has resolved issues for a merger with IEEE /217 Additional elements for identifying BSSs residing on different frequency channels Ability in PCF and HCF for a receiving entity to indicate suggested power changes to sending entity Aachen Univ, Cisco, Nokia and Philips
