Explain what housing was like for the poor in towns in the C19th
Source A is from Bleak House, written by Charles Dickens in It is a description of St Giles, a street in London: 'It is a black, dilapidated street, avoided by all decent people...these tumbling tenements contain, by night a swarm of misery. … these ruined shelters have bred a crowd of foul existence that crawls in and out of gaps in walls and boards; and coils itself to sleep where the rain drips in ; and comes and goes, fetching and carrying fever” Remember to use information from the source, and LOTS of your own knowledge.
