1 Swine Flu (H1N1) Biol 222 By: Khawla Zawahra

2 What is Swine Flu? Swine flu is a viral respiratory disease, with a highly infection between humans, it is caused by one or more kind of influenza viruses from type A , that infect the respiratory tract of pigs and result in nasal secretions, a barking cough, decreased appetite, and listless behavior .

3 H1N1 virus Swine flu viruses may mutate (change) so that they are easily transmissible among humans.

4 Symptoms of Swine Flu The symptoms of swine flu are similar to those of other types of seasonal flu. The effects of the illness are often mild, but some people are more at risk of serious illness. If you or a member of your family has a fever or high temperature (over 38C/100.4F) and two or more of the following symptoms, you may have swine flu:

5 Symptoms of Swine Flu Unusual tiredness Headache Runny nose
Sore throat Shortness of breath or cough Loss of appetite  Aching muscles Diarrhea  Vomiting

6 Symptoms of Swine Flu Swine flu produces most of the same symptoms in
pigs as human flu produces in people. Swine flu can last about one to two weeks in pigs that survive.

7 High-risk groups For most people, swine flu is a mild illness. Some people get better by staying in bed, drinking plenty of water and taking over-the-counter flu medication. However, some groups of people are more at risk of serious illness if they catch flu. It is already known that you are particularly at risk if you have:

8 High-risk groups Chronic (long-term) lung disease
Chronic heart disease Chronic kidney disease Chronic liver disease Chronic neurological disease (neurological disorders include chronic fatigue syndrome , multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson's disease) Immunosuppression (whether caused by disease or treatment) Diabetes Mellitus

9 High-risk groups Also at risk are:
Patients who have had drug treatment for asthma within the past three years. Pregnant women. People who are 65 years of age or over.

10 How is swine flu treated?
Not everyone needs treatment with anti-flu drugs.   Most people who come down with H1N1 swine flu recover fully – without antiviral treatment.

11 How is swine flu treated?
H1N1 swine flu virus is sensitive to the antiviral drugs Tamiflu and Relenza. These antiviral drugs are most effective when taken within 48 hours of the start of flu symptoms. It's resistant to older flu drugs.

12 How is swine flu treated?
A third antiviral drug, Peramivir , can be used only in hospitalized  patients with severe flu. Peramivir is an intravenous drug approved for use under the FDA's Emergency Use Authorization.

13 Materials and Methods Two methods have been taken a place in this project. Mainly, questionnaires that have been distributed on Arts, Business, Education, Science , and Nursing faculties in equal numbers of forms. Also, Internet searching was made to get information about Swine Flu disease.

14 The results Referring to the results of the questionnaire, which was distributed to a slice of Bethlehem university students, the results of answers were as follows:

15 Q1- May Swine flu produce dangerous Complications that affect Heart and Kidney?
percentage faculties

16 Q2- May Swine flu virus transfer through sexual intercourse?
percentage faculties

17 Q3-Is there a vaccination for the disease?
percentage faculties

18 Q4- Are men supposed to catch the disease more than women (due to their work circumstances) ?
percentage faculties

19 Q5-Is infected pork can transfer the disease virus?
percentage faculties

20 Q6- Swine flu can be treated by efficient antibiotics?
percentage faculties

21 Female students Percentage Questions
Q1- May Swine flu produce dangerous Complications that affect Heart and Kidney? Q2- May Swine flu virus transfer through sexual intercourse? Q3-Is there a vaccination for the disease? Q4- Are men supposed to catch the disease more than women (due to their work circumstances) ? Q5-is infected pork can transfer the disease virus? Q6- swine flu can be treated by efficient antibiotics? Female students Percentage Questions

22 Male students Percentage Questions
Q1- May Swine flu produce dangerous Complications that affect Heart and Kidney? Q2- May Swine flu virus transfer through sexual intercourse? Q3-Is there a vaccination for the disease? Q4- Are men supposed to catch the disease more than women (due to their work circumstances) ? Q5-is infected pork can transfer the disease virus? Q6- swine flu can be treated by efficient antibiotics? Male students Percentage Questions

23 Analysis of Results

24 Analysis of both results:
Results of Males and Females students were ranged normally in most questions. But there is a little deviation in some answers, that lead us to say that males of Bethlehem University have a higher percentage of true answers than females.

25 Wish you have enjoyed ! Thank you for your attention 
