2 Emergency Procedures Fire Drills -
Familiarize yourself with primary & secondary evacuation routes Be sure that your classroom(s) has a evacuation diagram (at student eye-level) Elementary students should practice routes Review evacuation routes/procedures in school assembly areas (e.g. Cafeteria, Auditorium, Playground, etc.)

Lockdowns & Shelter-in-Place – Familiarize yourself with all procedures Explain procedures to students Explain that these are simply a drill, same as a fire drill Keep students quietly occupied (reading or writing activity)

4 Emergency Procedures (Continued)
Student Health Issues– Learn about any student health-related issues (allergies, illnesses, medications, etc.) Create a chart showing any critical procedures, that you can keep in a central location, such as your grade book, for easy reference (put a copy with your substitute materials) Seek out training in any necessary response procedures (e.g. epi-pens, defibrillator, CPR, etc.)

DCPP & Student Crisis– Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCPP) [Formerly DYFS] Legal Obligation to Make Notification Anonymity Witness & Notes Notify Principal, Health Office or Guidance (The school is also required to call the police)

6 Emergency Procedures (Continued)
Bullying – Incidents of physical aggression, excessive teasing, harassment or bullying MUST be reported to an administrator as soon as possible, as per BOE policy, and State Statutes. This is NOT an area where teachers can use their own discretion.

8 Other Important Information
Social Networking & Issues - Problems in other Districts regarding Student Access to Social Networks: - Do not “Friend” students on-line - Be careful of photo content Do not discuss students or parents (or colleagues) in District . - It is much too easy to send to the wrong recipient. . . - It can be subpoenaed.
