1 Welcome Class of 2016!

2 WEHS Counselors Assist with 4 year plans, individual academic planning, crisis and brief counseling, assist with college application/scholarship process and work with parents, students and WEHS staff to ensure each student works towards their post-secondary goals.

3 STATE OF TEXAS RECOMMENDED HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM
English 4 credits Mathematics 4 credits Science 4 credits United States History 1 credit World History credit World Geography 1 credit Government 1/2 credit Economics 1/2 credit Foreign Language 2 credits in the same language Health (must be at HS level) 1/2 credit Fine Arts 1 credit Physical Education 1 credit Career and Technology 1 credit Communication Appl. 1/2 credit Electives 4 credits Total 26 units

4 Distinguished Achievement
To graduate with distinguished achievement a student must have three years of the same foreign language, four advanced measures and receive an advanced academic performance on the English 3 and Algebra 2 EOC tests .

5 Credits 26 credits required to graduate
To earn credit you must earn a 70 or higher for your year average and attend class 90% of the time Credit Requirements: Freshman Sophomore Junior Senior

6 Registering for 9th grade
Freshman Choice Card packets will be sent home prior to registering for classes. Students should select 9th grade courses on their choice cards prior to coming to Computer Lab. Parents will have access to view courses through Skyward until April 1st and make changes.

7 Typical Schedule for 9th grade
English 1 (Regular or Pre-AP) Algebra 1 (Regular or Pre-AP) Biology (Regular or Pre-AP) World Geography (Regular or Pre-AP) Athletics or PE Foreign Language (Span/Fren) Health/Prof Comm, Fine Arts class OR CTE course

8 Burnett Junior High Timeline
Feb 6th: Registration packets sent home Feb 14th: WEHS will be at Burnett to register students in computer labs. Students should bring completed choice cards to school on this day.

9 McMillian Junior High Timeline
February 16th: Students will receive registration packets February 23rd: WEHS will be at McMillian to register students in computer labs. Students should bring completed choice cards to school on this day.

10 End of Course Testing High school students will complete 12 End of Course tests: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II Biology, Chemistry, Physics English I, English II, English III World Geography, World History, US History

11 Cumulative Score Requirement
Example: If the cumulative score requirement for math is 1400, and the minimum score on each test is 400. Algebra I score = 400 Geometry score = 500 Algebra II score must equal 500 or more

12 Grade for End of Course End of Course score will be 15% of the students yearlong grade in the class. For the school year, the End of Course test counts 30% of the second semester grade.

14 Retesting Students who don’t earn the minimum score must retest in the summer. Tutoring and bus transportation provided. For a retest score to impact GPA and course average, the student must retest during the next administration. Retest opportunities available throughout the school year.

15 Test Procedures 4 hour time limit
2 day test for English (reading and writing) (more writing) More open ended and free response questions Increased rigor

16 PreAP, AP, Humanities, Dual Credit
PreAP, AP, Humanities, and Dual Credit courses all receive weighted grade points Open enrollment in PreAP and AP classes Know your strengths, speak with your current teachers Summer work is required in some classes
