The waveforms that can be generated in high-frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV) versus high-frequency percussive ventilation (HFPV). With HFPV, small volumes are delivered in a stepwise manner with scheduled interruptions that result in the formation of high- and low-frequency cycles. It has crudely been described as an amalgam of HFOV and pressure-controlled breaths into one. Source: Ventilator Technology and Management, Critical Care Citation: Oropello JM, Pastores SM, Kvetan V.
