REQUIREMENT OF GOOD STAIR
STAIR IS THE VERTICAL TRANSPORTATION BETWEEN THE FLOORS ,SO IT SHOULD BE DESIGNED SO AS TO PROVIDE EASY,QUICK AND SAFE MODE OF COMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE FLOORS. FOLLOWING ARE THE GENERAL REQUIREMENT WHICH A STAIR SHOULD FULFILL:-

LOCATION:- IT SHOULD BE SO LOCATED THAT IT IS WELL LIGHTED AND VANTILATED DIRECTLY FROM THE EXTERIOR. IT SHOULD BE SO LOCATED AS TO PROVIDE EASY ACCESS TO THE OCCUPANTS OF THE BUILDING. WIDTH OF STAIR:- IT SHOULD BE WIDE ENOUGH TO CARRY THE USER WITHOUT MUCH CROWD. WIDTH OF STAIR DEPENDS UP TO ITS LOCATION IN THE BUILDING AND THE TYPE OF BUILDING ITSELF.

STEPS DIMENSION:- THE RISE AND GOING SHOULD BE SUCH DIMENSION AS TO PROVIDE COMFORT TO THE USERS. THE WIDTH OF THE LANDING SHOULD NOT BE LESS THAN THE WIDTH OF STAIR. MATERIALS OF CONSTRUCTION:- TH MATERIAL USED FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE STAIR SHOULD BE AS PROVIDE SUFFCIENT STRENGTH AND FIRE RESISTANCE.

CLASSIFICATION OF THE STAIRS
STAIRS CAN MAINLY DIVIDED INTO TWO TYPES 1.STRAIGHT STAIRS 2.TURNING STAIRS STRAIGHT STAIRS:- IN THIS TYPE,THIS STAIR RUNS STRAIGHT BETWEEN TWO FLOORS.THIS STAIR MAY CONSIST OF EITHER ONE SINGLIE FLIGHT OR MORE THAN ONE FLIGHT(USUALLY TWO) WITH A LANDING.

TURNING STAIRS:- IN TURNING STAIRS CAN BE DIVIDED INTO MANY TYPES SUCH AS 1.QUARTER TURN STAIRS 2.HALF TURN STAIRS(DOG LEGGED AND OPEN WELL STAIRS) 3.THREE QUARTER TURN STAIRS 4.BI FURCATED STAIRS

NOW EACH TURNING STAIRS CAN FURTHER DIVIDED INTO THREE TYPES (A).NEWEL STAIRS:- IT HAS A NEWEL AT THE FOOOT AND HEAD OF EACH FLIGHT OF YHR STAIR (B).WELL OR OPEN NEWEL STAIRS AND :-LATERAL SPACE IS LEFT BETWEEN THE TURNING FLIGHTS. (C).GEOMETRICAL STAIRS:- IT HAS THE STRINGS AND HAND RAILS CONTINUOUS AND ARE SET OUT IN ACCORDANCE WITH GEOMETRICAL PRINCIPLES.

(A).QUARTER TURN STAIRS:- A QUARTER TURN STAIR IS THE ONE WHICH CHANGES ITS DIRECTION EITHER TO THE LEFT OR TO THE RIGHT.

(B).HALF TURN STAIRS:- HAIF TURN STAIR IS THE ONE WHICH HAS ITS DIRECTION REVERSED OR CHANGE FOR 180 DEGREE . THESE MAY BE OF THREE TYPES 1.DOG LEGGED OR NEWEL HALF TURN STAIR :- THERE IS NO SPACE BETWEEN THE OUTER STRINGS OF THE TWO FLIGHTS.

(D).CONTINUOUS STAIRS:- CONITUOUS STAIRS ARE THOSE WHICH DO NEITHER HAVE ANY LANDING NOR ANY INTERMEDIATE NEWELPOST. IT MAY BE OF FOLLOWING TYPES:-
