Barcelona Trip 2017

Staffing: Paco fernández (MFL Teacher) Yvonne briggs (teaching assistant) Should you need to contact the group whilst they are in Spain please see below: During school hours, please call reception on (from 8am to 8.30pm) Outside of school hours, please call This mobile phone is held by a member of the CVC senior leadership group and they will be able to get in touch with the staff on the trip. We will be using Twitter to communicate with parents re the group arriving in Barcelona and, on the return journey if there are any delays.

LUGGAGE: Everything has to be packed into one cabin bag only which must only weigh up to 10kg with a maximum dimension of 56cm x 45cm x 25cm including wheels, pockets and handles. After security, students will be able to take an additional small carrier bag onto the flight. No liquids over 100ml, breakables, or scissors are permitted in cabin luggage. Further advice can be found at Liquids in Hand Baggage: There are a number of rules to remember about what to put in your hand baggage and what to leave at home. Importantly, the word “liquids” has a wider meaning than you would perhaps think in the first instance. For example: lip balm, lip sticks, hand creams, deodorant, and hair spray are all considered liquids in this context. The liquid must be in a container with a maximum volume of 100ml All containers must comfortably fit into a transparent, re-sealable 1 litre plastic bag, measuring no more than 20 x 20cm This plastic bag must be removed from the hand baggage and shown separately to airport security

What to pack A packed lunch for the outward journey or money to purchase a snack at the airport Sufficient & appropriate clothing for 5 nights away and variable weather conditions Personal toiletries Personal medication (travel sickness tablets, hay fever, etc.) A rucksack/bag for use during the trip Comfortable shoes Swimming gear (Towel provided for swimming and at the hotel) Pen & paper Quiet entertainment for journeys –eg iPod, books, games Camera Mobile phone (permitted see additional notes) Sun cream & hat & sunglasses

Money: We recommend € some £ for airport shopping Mobile phones: Mobile phones are not necessary but may be bought and used at these times: On the journey for listening to music/entertainment For the purpose of taking photographs In an emergency to contact a member of staff on the trip This is common sense etiquette but… Mobile phones should not be used as an alternative to engaging in conversation. The whole purpose of the trip is to meet new people, experience a different culture and share enjoyable activities. Unhelpful or excessive use of mobiles can be a barrier to face-to-face interaction and could mean that you miss out on great opportunities.

Recent Terrorist Activity in Cities
Please  do not be alarmed by this but know that we are taking this situation seriously and considering very carefully whether different trips/visits should go ahead Current advice from the Police, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Cambridgeshire County Council says that trips and visits can/should still go ahead. If this changes, we will make changes to what we are planning to do or to what is already taking place, and parents will be informed For all trips, we already have a number of measures in place to ensure the safety and security of staff and students, especially if an emergency situation presents itself.  County have issued advice on what we should be doing to make sure we are prepared if such a situation occurs in light of recent events– all of which we are already doing. Parents are free to decide for themselves if their son/ daughter will go on a trip Staff have been briefed about what to do if a threatening  event occurs and Senior Leaders will be on hand to help via phone contact Government advice has been included in trip packs around the idea of RUN- HIDE- TELL and staff and pupils have been/ will be briefed on this. If there are any concerns during the week the school can be contacted or out of hours the on call SLG number can be used (on the information letter)
