6 1.04 Employ marketing-information to develop a marketing plan.
Entrepreneurship I Standard 1.0 Understand economics, career planning, and information management. Standard 2.0 Understand entrepreneurship, product/service management, information management, professional development, emotional intelligence, and operations. Standard 3.03 Employ marketing-information to develop a marketing plan. ~~~ Marketing 1.04 Employ marketing-information to develop a marketing plan. Dessertwich Web Page Midknight Web Page CTE Courses Marketing Entrepreneurship Hospitality & Tourism Sports Marketing If you know how to program, do you know the content that you are programming and why? Why coding and computer programming? The trend in marketing is to use computer programs to analyze customer and consumer data to be able to market to a segmented target market. Native Advertising is a new “buzz word” that places products/services in articles on social media. This type of advertising is specifically targeted toward a segment that is defined by marketing analytics and data. Learning the logical steps in coding can also model a logical learning process to solve most problems encountered in entrepreneurship, marketing and other professional careers (e.g. If, then statements and sequential ordering of actions),

7 Ramp Up Hour of Code Ongoing collaboration with CTE classes
Students engaged by video clips and tutorials Show interested in MORE Need for discussions about real world applications

8 SPARCS (Students in Programming, Robotics and Computer Science)

9 Guest Speakers from SPARCS
High school seniors and juniors are concerned about majors that will land jobs and still be in demand in an uncertain future. Besides just being fun, having current college students work with high school students gives them the confidence that what they are learning is relevant. It makes it more important to their immediate future. Job Outlook for software developers Hitchings or Kreisman introduces Veronica again. Veronica talks about her experiences with students and Hour of Code How this can increase student awareness about computer careers, as well as why a background in computer science is good for any business major Best practices in computer education Why this is an relevant collaboration

10 Hour of Code Programming Projects and Alternative Activities
Code.org; CS Unplugged;

11 Hour of Code Increased awareness in careers:
What does a computer scientist actually do? For real though? Benefits to other majors: business, health, sciences Honest conversation about things that matter to students: money, opportunity, work-life balance Hour of Code Meet a Computer Scientist Computer Scientists think about and develop ways in which computers and technology can make a process or system more efficient or beneficial. Computer Science is a large field w/ much variance: team vs independent; clients vs defects; communications Computing Careers: Healthcare - Symptoms & diseases database; Google Docs for Doctors (collaborative space); web & app development for tablets and healthcare workers; hands free search (kinect in the OR) => Law, Education. business: analytics & big data; market research; trends (housing; investments; optimized inventory); Point of Sales; HR management; Algorithms for spam filter being used on targeting infected hiv cells computer science & english -> narrative in games as well as natural language processing for AI, tutors, interpreting big data [which word is least/most likely to come next] money? yes money, lots of it, no one to give it to; turn over & layoffs? sometimes; managers don't like firing, firing is difficult, international firing even more so. CS folks change companies get promotions switch back; agile workers are good at adapting to change; work-life completely up to you. workcations vs crunch time & dungeons.

12 Best Practices Gauge the skill of both students and volunteers
Have backup options when technology fails Be comfortable with uncomfortable and unknown Computer Science applies to nearly every field Even canine computer interaction for guide dogs & programming cockroaches to do search & rescue If students seem unengaged, bring it back to what they care about Best Practices

13 Collaboration is Key
