11
Shot & Rebound Coverage
12
Three-Point Shot Coverage
If both C and T indicate the 3-pt attempt, T should referee the defense on the shooter and stay with the shot; C should release and cover rebounding C/T should mirror the other official’s “good” signal L does not have 3-pt attempt responsibilities in a front court offense, but may need to offer assistance on fast break.
13
SUBSTITUTIONS Table-side official when in front court
Center official when play going long The official will sound their whistle and beckon subs. Make sure to keep hand up until player is off the court
14
PRESS COVERAGE T – Has ball in backcourt
C – Has Middle pack of players Do not look back at ball Has all the way across court May need to help with backcourt calls L – Position a few steps behind last player
15
Court Positioning Start at home sport Move to get angles
LEAD – Wide or Closedown Center – Foul line extended Trail – 28ft line Move to get angles We need to always see in between players Anticipate players movements and position adjust Better position = Better Calls
16
Rotations Lead needs to do a better job to rotate
Lead get to closedown immediately unless ball is coming down court wide When ball is on C side, Lead should already be at closedown and getting ready to rotate. Should already be over when ball is entered into post
17
Rotations Stop rotation and go back if:
SHOT PASS DRIVE Rotation doesn’t end until you get to opposite lane line Don’t Run
18
Rotations Type of defenses Type of offence Post players Zone or Man
Perimeter or inside Post players Physicality
19
Areas of improvement T and C Coverage Trail too far onto the court
C should referee plays in their area T needs to come off the ball once C picks up Trail too far onto the court Leads calling across paint If you want to ref that play you should already rotate Understand where partners are and what they can and cannot see Communication – Eye contact Movement
20
Playcalling Strive for 100% but know it won’t happen
Work the system and trust the system Don’t ball watch Get in position to see between players Let play start-develop-finish and then make call When in position accuracy goes up Don’t guess Consistency – Catalog plays Know situations
