Allow students to begin active reading for sections one and two (chapter 1) using Cornell notes/FoldNotes. Students do not have books to take home, therefore pre-reading must occur during the instructional period.

15minutes: ◊Have students make a list of significant environmental problems in the world today and discuss with a partner ◊Have student define some environmental problems in our local community ◊Ask students to identify one of the local problems that is a part of the larger global problem
