BASIC INFO Ruled before the Olympians
During the time of the Golden Age of Men They were immortal giants of incredible strength and knowledge of old religion rituals and magic Also known as the Elder Gods Lived at Mount Othrys Seen as the personifications of the earth (Gaea) and the sky or heavens (Uranus)

TWO GENERATIONS The first generation The second generation
Titans were descendants of Gaea and Uranus who originally gave birth to Twelve Titans Six males and six female They arose to power when Cronus, in a plot with his mother and his brothers, castrated his father, Uranus, and took over the Cosmos from him The second generation Some of the Titans consorted with sons and daughters of their relatives and gave birth to the second generation of Titans The titans were defeated by the Olympians in a ten-year war, known as Titanomachy They called themselves the Olympic Gods, after Mount Olympus which was their main dwelling place, and became the new rulers of Cosmos

COEUS Titan god of intelligence and farsight
Also considered the god of wisdom and heavenly oracles Known as the Pillar of the North Pole from which constellations revolved Therefore he controlled the axis between heaven and earth One of 6 sons of Uranus and Gaea One of the 5 brothers who attacked Uranus and helped Cronus take over

COEUS (PROPHETIC FAMILY)
Believed to hear the prophetic voices of his father, Uranus (heaven), like Phobe (his sister and mother of his children) could hear the prophetic voices of her mother Together they had two daughters Leto Asteria More descendants Apollo Hecate No real clear proof that Coeus was prophetic other than having a prophetic family Being able to predict the future because of his intelligence and divine knowledge that he gained from his predecessors

CRIUS Titan god of heavenly constellations
AKA Pillar of the South pole Crius means Ram His constellation is often seen as the starting season of the Greek year His constellation is Aries (which now means the start to spring) Together with his 3 brothers (Coeus, Hyperion, and Iapetus) they presided as the pillars of holding Heaven and Earth apart One of 6 Sons of Gaea and Uranus One of the 5 Sons who overthrew Uranus

CRIUS He fathered several children with his half-sister Eruybia (she was the daughter of Gaea and Pontus) Astraeus Pallus Perses Was supposed to be condemned to eternal punishment for his role in the Titanomachy however he was released by Zeus from Tartarus along with the rest of the Titans.

Cronus God of Time and ages
Associated with the destructive nature of time – which eventually consumes everything!!! Represented changing time Married to Rhea – His sister Gave birth to the new generation of gods – the Olympians Cronus had another child that was not a god….. So he came down to earth to Philyra (daughter of Oceanus) and took on the form of a horse and….. Thus we have Centaur Chiron

Cronus Cronus became the Ruler of the Cosmos!!!!
During the Golden Age of Men It was a time of prosperity and peace between ALL beings Animals spoke/ no one got sick/ lived in abundance of everything/ death was during sleep and was peaceful Cronus taught men to be civilized Because he taught justice, people became kind hearted 6 kids during this time, but before they were born Uranus and Gaea showed him a future that Cronus hated….

Cronus Peace was no longer
Cronus was prophesied to be dethroned by one of his sons So he swallowed Poseidon, hades, Hestia, Hera, and Demeter Rhea got mad and gave birth in secret to Zeus and then fed Cronus a roc to swallow Zeus grew up and eventually freed his brothers and sisters He mixed essentially ipecac into his drink and he vomited up his kids After all his siblings were regurgitated, they overthrew the titans

Cronus Titanomachy War broke out because of Cronus’ pride and careless actions Cronus thought the Titans would win, but he didn’t count on the people Zeus recruited Zeus persuaded Hecate/ Prometheus/ Epimetheus/ Metis/ Hekatoncheries/ Cyclopes He released them from Tartarus (where they had been imprisoned by Cronus) Cronus and the Titans were imprisoned in Tartarus to face eternal punishment but were eventually released Some stories say that Cronus was released by Zeus and made king of Islands of the Blessed where he ruled the souls of the departed heroes

Hyperion Titan god of light or sunlight Pillar of east
One of the 5 who helped overthrow Uranus and Gaea First to understand the movements of the sun and moon and stars and stuff Married his sister Theia and they had 3 kids Helios Selene Eos

Iapetus Titan god of mortal life span or god of death
Nick named “the Piercer” because he used violence to claim souls of mortals Pillar of west one of the 5 sons who attacked Uranus Stood by his brother Cronus Married his niece Clymene 4 sons Overshadowed by his sons when in war Homer states that he was equal in power to Cronus When the war was done, he was banished to Tartarus Was described as one of the more destructive titans

Mnemosyne Titan goddess of memory and remembrance
Believe to be the inventor of speech and writing Her daughters are the muses and they are believed to possess kings and poets and give them powers over speech 1 of 6 daughters of Uranus and Gaea

The muses Calliope - muse of epic poetry was believed to have possessed Homer and gave him inspiration for the Odyssey and the Iliad. She is often depicted as carrying a book or a writing tablet. She was also the mother of two sons by Apollo called Linus and Orpheus Clio - muse of history. She is usually depicted of holding an open scroll or is seated beside a chest of books Erato - muse of love and erotic poetry. Most of the time she is depicted playing a kithara or a lyre, but in some cases she is shown with a wreath of myrtle and roses

Euterpe - muse of music. She is often depicted sitting on a chair and playing her double flute
Melpomene - muse of tragedy. She is usually depicted wearing cothurnus boots(boots worn by tragic actors) and holding a tragic mask in her hand However, she was originally a muse of singing and dancing which came from her name or more precisely from greek verb melpô ("to celebrate with dance and song.") Polyhymnia - muse of sacred hymns. She is depicted as serious or meditative, often standing, wearing long cloak and supporting her arm with a part of the cloak

Terpsichore - muse of dancing
Terpsichore - muse of dancing. Usually, she is depicted in a sitting position and playing a lyre with her special plectrum She is also mentioned to be the mother of Sirens Thalia - muse of comedy. Most of the time, she is depicted holding a comic mask in her hand and wearing a cloak and a crown made of ivy Urania - muse of astronomy. She is depicted with a globe in her hand. Urania was believed to be able to tell the future by arrangement of the stars and is often associated with Universal Love and the Holy Spirit

Oceanus Titan god of enormous river called Okeanos
Okeanos was believed to encircle the world connecting all realms Personification of all salt water of the world Mediterranean Sea Atlantic Ocean Indian Ocean This also included all fresh water Originally the source of all water First descendant of Uranus and Gaea Married his sister Tethys and they gave birth to 3000 Potamoi (river gods) and Oceanids (nymphs)

Oceanus Unlike his brothers, he didn’t care about power and never joined the war against the Olympians He also didn’t join in the castration of his father Was never imprisoned in Tartarus

Phoebe Titan goddess of prophetic radiance
Often associated with Selene (goddess of the moon) which is a misidentification She was prophetic however Third prophet of the Oracle of Delphi Following Gaea and Themis But she didn’t care for the burden so she gave it over to Apollo 1 of 6 daughters of Uranus and Gaea

Rhea Titan goddess of Fertility and Motherhood
Very gentle – name means “ease” Often worshiped as the goddess of comfort and ease There are many myths about Rhea She was the supreme mother goddess Uranus and Gaea derived from her She was the Cybelean goddess, Cybelle (earth goddess) Married Cronus and they represented the “eternal flow” Gave birth to a new generation of gods Because of this she is seen as the goddess of generations

Tethys Titan goddess of all freshwater on earth
One of 6 daughters of Uranus and Gaea Married Oceanus 3000 river gods and nymphs Mother of Nephelai (rain clouds) and Aurai (breeze) Often associated with sky deities

Theia Titan goddess of shining
Associated with shining light, metals, or jewels Men honored her by making sacrifices of gold (believed to be the most shiney thing ever) Also considered the goddess of sight because Greeks believed that eyes emitted a beam of light which allowed you to see what you looked at One of 6 daughters of Uranus and Gaea Associated with Prophecy Married Hyperion and is believed to be the mother of the sun moon and dawn because of her kids Helios, Selene, Eos

Themis Titan goddess of divine law order and customs
Messenger of the first rules of conduct established by the elder gods Second oracle at the Oracle of Delphi Also knowns to be a counsellor of Zeus, advising the king gods on the conduct men Prophesied The fall of the titans Other famous prophesies that have been credited to other gods Married to Zeus Horae and Moirai (Hours and Fates)
