1 Enhancement of Croatian register of radiation sources

2 Legal framework According to the Act on radiological and nuclear safety (OG 141/13 and 39/15) and Ordinance on authorizations and licenses for use of and movement of ionizing radiation sources (OG 71/12 and 89/13) licensee is obliged to register within 15 days of acquiring sealed source, shield or ballast made of depleted uranium, roentgen device or other electrical device that produces ionizing radiation into Central register maintained by State Office for Radiological and Nuclear Safety.

3 Central register of radiation sources
Central register of radiation sources in Croatia was established in 1999. Until December 2016, 3254 licensees were registered, 2117 in the field of medicine and 1137 in industry and other fields. Out of all the registered licensees, 1967 in the field of medicine and 734 in industry and other fields are still active (December 2016).

4 Central register of radiation sources
Central register currently (December 2016) contains 2701 radiation source. That number includes all electrical radiation generators, including LINACs, and sealed sources currently in use. Central register does not contain information about open sources. Central register does not contain information about performed inspections.

5 Dosimetry According to the Act on radiological and nuclear safety (OG 141/13 and 39/15), SORNS has a duty to collect in Central register of dosimetry data for all the exposed workers. Total number of active exposed workers in October 2016 was 5955 (5206 in medicine and 749 in industry and other fields). SORNS current database contains also central register of dosimetry data

6 Problems with current register
Database was first built in 1999 – old architecture Database code was last updated around 2010 Users are too well used to the database Users accept bugs and limitations instead of working to correct them Solution: new database - RAIS

7 RAIS In addition to the information in current Central register, RAIS can include: Open sources Inspection reports

8 RAIS To ensure continuation of collected data and compliance with the law, SORNS’ IT experts have been working intensively for the last 6 months to expand RAIS to cover dosimetry. SORNS experts have also modified RAIS so that it contains the detailed information about the location of the source that is in current database
