We used the Quick Outline as a template for ALL paragraphs. All paragraphs need
Topic sentence (T.S.)
Several pieces of evidence
Closing sentence (which becomes the Thesis statement in a multi paragraph outline/essay

5. Using multiple paragraph outlines for DBQs
The 6th grade history students did a short answer analysis on 4 DBQ questions on the Neolithic Revolution
They applied the Quick Outline (of the Introduction) to paragraph #1, including the topic sentence and the three of the 4 documents they would be using
Paragraphs 2, 3, & 4 were then used to outline information from the individual docs
Paragraph #5 then becomes the conclusion, restating the thesis and drawing key facts from para 2,3,&4

Remind students that the Quick Outline model applies to all paragraphs – T.S. / specific content/conclusion
Demonstrate /model how to transfer Quick Outline notes to the Multiple Paragraph Outline
Model how document information goes to paras #2, 3, & 4
Conclusion – restates the thesis, and brings in short examples of key information/evidence
