HOW TO APPLY When you are ready to start your application, click on Apply for Fall 2018.

INTERNATIONAL FRESHMAN APPLICATION CHECKLIST
Before you begin your application, make sure to have the following items on hand: Unofficial transcripts/grade reports for each year of high school. For students who have completed all of their high school coursework in the United States, you will be asked to enter all courses completed, those currently in progress, and any courses you plan to take before your high school graduation. Test scores (TOEFL, IELTS, SAT, ACT, AP or IB). Report the results of tests you have taken up to this point and note any future tests that you planning to take. Your Social Security Number, if you have one. Your citizenship and visa status. Credit card. Application fees are due at the time of submission and are paid by credit card.

CREATE YOUR ACCOUNT Once you have clicked on Apply, select Create an Account on the welcome screen.

CREATE AN ACCOUNT—CONTACT INFORMATION Under Your Name, type in your first and last name as stated on your driver’s license, passport, or birth certificate. As you are adding your contact information, use the drop down menu to select the country (where your phone number has been issued) and then enter your phone number.

CREATE AN ACCOUNT — CONTACT INFORMATION Once you are finished with this screen, click on Create my account. After you have completed creating your account, click on Continue.

COMPLETE YOUR PROFILE Since you are applying as an international first-time freshman: Select Undergraduate Under the question “Which of the following best describes you?”, select Graduating High School Senior or equivalent If you have not earned any college credits through a college or university while in high school, then select No.

COMPLETE YOUR PROFILE — MILITARY & U.S. CITIZENSHIP STATUS
Step #1: Use the drop-down menu to select a U.S. Military Status. Step #2: Use the drop-down menu to select one of the U.S. Citizenship Status options below. Please note that if you are applying as an international student, you should identify yourself as a Non-Resident. U.S. Citizen: An individual born in the United States An individual who has been naturalized as a United States citizen An individual born in Puerto Rico, Guam, or in the U.S. Virgin Islands Permanent U.S. Resident: an individual admitted to the United States as a lawful permanent resident Temporary U.S. Resident: an individual admitted to the United States as a lawful temporary resident Non Resident: An individual who is not a United States Citizen and will study at SDSU on an F-1 or J-1 Visa None: an individual without a legal status in the United States (including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival students, Dream Act students) Step #1 If you or your parents have not served in the U.S. Military, select “Not a Member of the Military” Step #2

COMPLETE YOUR PROFILE — U.S. CITIZENSHIP STATUS
Do you have or do you plan to have a F-1 or a J-1 visa while attending San Diego State University? If your answer is yes to this question, then select Yes. Once you are finished answering the questions on this screen, click on Save Changes.

START YOUR APPLICATION
Click on Start Your Application! on the bottom of the page. You will receive a confirmation of saved information as you complete each section. Your application will be completed online and submitted electronically once you have entered the required information.

Use the drop down menu to select the term you will be applying to.

Use the drop-down menus to select the Campus and Location. SDSU Location Options: Georgia Campus: The Georgia Campus is located in Tbilisi, Georgia Imperial Valley: The Imperial Valley Campus is located in Calexico, California, U.S. Main Campus: The Main Campus is located in San Diego, California, U.S.

SELECTING YOUR PROGRAMS
Use the drop-down menu to select the Start Term to which you are applying to. Then, click on the Fall term. Select the program (major) to which you want to apply by clicking on the plus sign on the left-hand side. Once you are done selecting your program (major), click on I am Done, Review My Selections to continue with your application.

The Application Dashboard will help you access different parts of your application: Personal Information Academic History Supporting Information Program Materials

PERSONAL INFORMATION Click on the Personal Information quadrant to begin the first part of your admission application.

PERSONAL INFORMATION Click on the first section called Release Statement to begin to enter your information.

RELEASE STATEMENT Carefully read each statement under Certification, Release of Contact Information, Additional Information Release, and International Financial Certification. Check the boxes beneath the text and when you are finished, click on Save and Continue.

BIOGRAPHIC INFORMATION
Carefully complete the information in the Biographic Information section. You can edit this information prior to submission, but once you submit your application, this information can no longer be edited. Mary Student

Use the drop-down menu to select a U.S. Citizenship Status. Please note that if you are applying as an international student, you should identify yourself as a Non-Resident. Step#1: Visa Information - Do you have or do you plan to have a F-1 or J-1 Visa while studying at SDSU? If so, select “Yes.” Step#2: Use the drop down menu to select the student visa you currently have or will be applying for in order to study at SDSU. Step#2 If you plan to have a F-1 or J-1 Visa while studying at SDSU, answer “Yes” to this question. Step#1

CITIZENSHIP/RESIDENCY INFORMATION CONTINUED
If you plan to have a F-1 or J-1 Visa while studying at SDSU, answer the questions below in RED. After you have answered all of the questions under the “Visa Information”, continue to the “Residency” and “International Additional Questions.” When you are finished, click “Save and Continue.” If you do not have a current F-1 or J-1 Visa, you may leave this field blank. But, if you do have a current F-1 or J-1 Visa, enter your 8 digit Visa number. What type of visa do you plan to have while studying at SDSU? F-1 or J-1 Visa? Which U.S. Embassy or Consulate office is closest to you? Which U.S. Embassy or Consulate office would you go to for a student visa appointment? In what city will your potential F-1 or J-1 Visa be issued? In what country will your potential F-1 or J-1 Visa be issued? What are the dates that your potential F-1 or J-1 Visa will be issued for? How long do you plan to study at SDSU? (ex: freshmen visas are typically issued for 4 years and 6 months) Which university will be issuing your potential I-20?

RACE AND ETHNICITY To conform to federal guidelines, CSU campuses must collect information on ethnic and racial backgrounds for all applicants. This information will not affect your application for admission.

PARENT/GUARDIAN INFORMATION
International freshmen applicants, do not need to report information regarding their parent(s) or guardian(s). If you choose to not report this information, click on I am not adding any Parent/Guardian. Once you are finished answering the questions in this section, click on Other Information, located on the side menu to continue with your application.

OTHER INFORMATION Step #1: If you have a Social Security Number (SSN), enter it here. If you do not have an SSN, leave this part blank. Step #2: Use the drop down menu to select your Native Language. If you speak multiple languages, click on Add Another Language to add that information. Continue answering the remaining questions. Step #1 Step #3: Under the Household Income and Size Information section, select “International Applicant.” Step #4: Once you are finished with this section, click on Save and Continue. EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY PROGRAM (EOP)
The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), is not available for international students. As an international applicant, please select No under EOP Information, and click on Save and Continue.

HIGH SCHOOLS ATTENDED—GRADUATION STATUS
Have you already graduated or will you be graduating from high school at the end of this school year? Step #1: Indicate if you have received or will be receiving a high school diploma or a high school equivalency (ex: GED) Step #2: Enter high school graduation date. If you will be graduating at the end of this school year, enter your future graduation date. Step #3: Enter your grade point average (GPA) in the Academic Performance field (ex: GPA on a 5.0 scale, GPA on a 10.0 scale, Academic Standing, Percentage, etc.) Step #4: Enter the name of your high school degree or diploma (ex: Higher Secondary Certificate, Diploma de Bacalaureat, Attestat, Diploma de Ensino Medio, etc). HIGH SCHOOLS ATTENDED—MY HIGH SCHOOLS
First, click on Add a High School at the bottom of the page to enter your school information. Next, select the location of your high school by using the drop-down menus. Then, enter the name of your high school. When you are finished typing it in, click on Search for Your School or I Was Home Schooled.

HIGH SCHOOLS ATTENDED—SEARCH FOR YOUR SCHOOL
Step #1: Review the results at the bottom of the screen to see if your school appears as an option for you to select. If your high school does not appear in the results provided, click on None of these are my school. Step #1 Step #2: If the name of your high school appears in the results provided, click on This is My School. Step #2

HIGH SCHOOLS ATTENDED—TERM TYPE AND DATES ATTENDED
Use the drop-down menu to select the Term Type your school follows For Dates Attended, enter the date you started attending your high school and the date you stopped attending your high school. Once you are done answering the questions in this section, click Save This School to add this information to your admission application.

HIGH SCHOOLS ATTENDED—ADD ANOTHER HIGH SCHOOL
Students are required to report all high schools attended. If you attended multiple high schools, click on Add a High School to enter additional schools. If you are ready to continue onto the next section of the application, click on High School Coursework on the left-hand side of the screen. This is an example of what your application will look like when you have attended multiple schools:

HIGH SCHOOL COUREWORK–THREE PATHWAYS
International students can apply by using one of the pathways listed below. Select the pathway that best fits you. 1st Pathway: International students who have completed ALL of their high school coursework outside of the United States (9th-12th). Follow slides: 33 to 36. 2nd Pathway: International students who have completed SOME of their high school coursework outside of the United States. This pathway includes students who have any combination of U.S. and foreign high school coursework (9th-12th). Follow slides: 37 to 43. 3rd Pathway: International students attending and graduating from a high school in the United States. ALL high school courses must have been completed in the United States (9th-12th). Follow slides: 44 to 49.

1ST PATHWAY: HIGH SCHOOL COURSEWORK
First Time Freshmen with ALL International Coursework: International students who have completed ALL of their high school coursework outside of the United States (9th-12th) are not required to enter their high school coursework. Once you are finished adding all of the high schools you attended, both the “High School Coursework” and “A-G Matching” sections of the application will auto complete.

Once you are finished with this section of the application, click on “Standardized Tests.” Then go to slide 57 to continue with this tutorial.

2ND PATHWAY: HIGH SCHOOL COURSEWORK–ADD A GRADE LEVEL
First Time Freshmen with U.S. and International Coursework: To begin adding a grade level, use the drop down menus and do the following: Select grade level 12 Click on your school’s name. If you attended multiple schools, choose the school that you will be graduating from. Choose the academic (school) year in which you are completing the 12th grade. Once you are done selecting the grade level, click on the green check mark on the right-hand side of the screen.

2ND PATHWAY: HIGH SCHOOL COURSEWORK–ADD A COURSE
Students who have completed high school courses outside of the United States, do not need to list all of their courses on the application. Instead, you will enter 8 placeholder courses. These placeholder courses are needed to complete the required A-G Matching section of the application. After you have submitted your Cal State Apply application, you will need to mail all of your official transcripts to SDSU for a complete evaluation of your high school course work.

2ND PATHWAY: HIGH SCHOOL COURSEWORK–8 PLACEHOLDER COURSES
Follow these steps to enter your 8 placeholder courses: Step #1: In the Course Title field, enter “International Applicant” Step #2: Enter grades of “Pass” for each term Step #3: For the Course Type, use the drop down menu and select “None” Step #4: Click on the green check mark Step #5: Repeat steps 1-4 seven more times. 2ND PATHWAY: HIGH SCHOOL COURSEWORK–8 PLACEHOLDER COURSES
After you have entered your eight placeholder courses, your High School Coursework should look like the screen shot to the right. If you need to go back and change one of your placeholder courses, you may click on the blue pencil on the right hand side. When you are ready to continue, click on A-G Matching in the menu on the left hand side of the screen. Click on the blue pencil to make changes

2ND PATHWAY: A–G MATCHING
Now you will need to match your 8 placeholder courses to the A-G Subject Totals. Please follow these steps: Step #1: Click on Update A-G Courses Step #2: Enter the A-G codes in the A-G column. Follow the red arrows. Step #2 Step #1

After you have finished entering the A-G Subject codes, your application should look like the screen shot on the left. Once you are done, click on Save and Continue.

If you have completed college course work while in high school, click on Colleges Attended and go to slide 50 to continue this tutorial. If you did not complete college course work while in high school, click on Standardized Tests and go to slide 57 to continue this tutorial.

3RD PATHWAY HIGH SCHOOL COURSEWORK—ADD A GRADE LEVEL
First Time Freshmen With Only U.S. Coursework: Under “Begin by Adding a Grade Level,” select the grade level, name of high school, and the years attended for the coursework you will be entering. Once you are done selecting the grade level, click on the green check mark on the right-hand side of the screen.

3RD PATHWAY: HIGH SCHOOL COURSEWORK–ADD A COURSE
Step #1: Under “Great! Now Add a Course,” enter the name of your class in the Course Title field. *If your U.S. high school is in the database, the suggested course titles will begin to appear as you enter your class name. Step #2: Enter the letter grades you received in the course. *If you are currently enrolled in a class, enter “In Progress” for the grade. *If you are planning to take a course in the following semester, enter “Planned” for the grade. Step #1: Under Course Type, use the drop-down menu to indicate if the course is Honors, AP, IB, or College. Step #2: Once you are finished entering the course, click on the green check mark. Step #2 – Click the green check mark Step #1 – Select Course Type

Once you have clicked on the green check mark, you will see that the course you entered will now appear as a saved course on the top of the screen. Continue adding your courses and grades earned for the rest of that grade level. When you are finished entering your courses for your grade level, click on “Add Grade Level” on the bottom of the screen. Once you are done entering your classes for your grade level, your application should look like this screen shot.

Coursework Completed in Grades 7 and/or 8 If you took college preparatory math or Language Other Than English (LOTE) courses in grades 7 and/or 8, report your course(s) and grade(s) earned as grade 9. COLLEGES ATTENDED Once you are finished entering all of your high school coursework, click on “Colleges Attended” located on the left-hand side of the screen. If you have taken any college courses, click on “Add a College.” If you have not taken any college courses, click on “I Have Never Attended a College” and go to slide 54.

COLLEGES ATTENDED If you clicked on Add a College, then enter the name of your college. If your college is in the database, then it will appear when you begin to type to in the name. If your college appears in the suggestions provided, click on the college to add it to your application. If your college does not appear in the suggestions provided, finish typing the college name and click on Can’t find your school?

COLLEGES ATTENDED Step #1: If you entered your college’s name and clicked on “Can’t find your school”, then answer the questions below. Step #2: Use the drop-down menu to indicate your dates of attendance. A–G MATCHING All first-time freshman applicants with all U.S. coursework must complete the A-G courses by the time they graduate from high school. The A-G Matching table is designed to help first-time freshman applicants check if they are meeting all of their subject requirements. Note: the number of Years listed on the right-hand side refers to the total number of years completed in each subject and does not include any work in progress nor planned courses. If you need to make changes to the courses you previously entered, click on Update A-G Courses.

MAKING CHANGES TO YOUR A–G COURSES
From this screen you can update which courses you have completed to meet each of the A-G courses. If additional courses need to be added, select High School Coursework on the left-hand side. If you need to make changes to the courses you have reported, click on the grade you wish to edit from the blue bars displayed on the screen.

COLLEGE COURSE ENTRY From this screen you can enter the college courses you have completed or plan to complete in the future.

STANDARDIZED TEST ENTRY
Step 1: For each test type you have taken, or plan to take in the future, click the Add Test Score button. Step 2: To add multiple test scores, use the Add a Standardized Test button at the bottom of the page for each type of test. Step 3: Add Advanced Placement, CLEP, and International Baccalaureate credits by selecting these options on the left-hand side. Step #1 Step #3 Step #2

ADD ACHIEVEMENTS Academic achievments are not taken into consideration for admission to SDSU. Admission eligibility will be determined upon the evaluation of your official high school transcripts/grade reports. So, please click on “I am Not Adding Any Achievements,” and then on “EOP Recommendations” to continue with your application.

EOP RECOMMENDATIONS Step #1: The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), is not available for international students. As an international applicant, please click on “I Am Not Adding Any EOP Recommendations.” Step #2: Click on “My Application” to go back to your application dashboard. Step #2 Step #1

CHECK YOUR PROGRESS AND SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION
Take a moment to go back through your application and make sure that all of your information has been entered acurately. Once you have reviewed your entries for accuracy and all parts of the application are complete, you are ready to submit your application with payment. Click on “Submit Application” on the top of your screen.
