2 What is Dual Immersion? Dual Language is a bilingual education model that uses English and a partner or target language for 50% of instructional time. These programs generally: Begin in kindergarten and roll up one grade level per year. Require a clear separation of languages with commitment to stay in the target language and encourage students to use that target language during target language time as well. Require students to learn half of their academic content during the elementary years in the target language. Require that an immersion teacher craft his lessons so that the target language is developed before the student can truly understand and manipulate the content information.

5 Global Economy Participation
3 Global Economy Participation This program model is the only one that allows for students to: 1) reach levels of language proficiency needed for full participation in the global economy. 2) Combine two proficient languages and an enhanced understanding of other cultures, so dual language students will be more successful in the global economy.

6 Enhanced Cultural Sensitivity
4 Enhanced Cultural Sensitivity Culture and language are inter-related. Therefore, students participating in the dual language program develop intercultural competence, meaning they learn to use language appropriately in different cultural contexts. Students become adept at accepting and becoming comfortable with others’ differences. “My main concern for the young children of Arizona and the USA as a whole, is that we are not equipping them with the educational tools necessary for them to be successful going forward” –Craig Barrett, Retired CEO of Intel Corporation Chairman of Arizona Ready Education Council
