Arts Council and the Creative Case for Diversity Sir Peter Bazalgette Sadler’s Wells 8 December 2014 ‘Evaluation: making it work for us’: our DMAG dialogue What do we ‘need’ to know? Essentials What to we ‘want’ to know? New emphasis from the Arts Council’s chair, Peter – ‘The Creative Case for Diversity’ - see Youtube and the transcript (see video from 19 mins onwards) Where Arts Council invests public money in arts & culture- it must be for the benefit of all the public. The arts are a mirror for society – Make arts work appeal across their communities Need to demonstrate how they make progress, reflecting the nature of our communities giving a voice to everyone irrespective of their background, ethnicity, to their age, gender, sexuality and disability Diversity is an evolving agenda particular to communities Let communities tell us what diversity is, and means to them Measured action on diversity arts and culture goes mainstream.
