Rugby World cup Home and Away effects
2
Assumptions I am assuming that media relating to RWC will decrease during this years RWC, since is away. I am assuming that NZ’s economics system will decreased during this years RWC. I am assuming that New Zealander’s will be less interested and involved in this years RWC, compared to 2011 I am assuming thats businesses such as hotels, restaurants etc made more money during the 2011 RWC. I am assuming that 90% (Others section) of people wont fly over to the UK to see a game. I am assuming that NZ had more tourists during 2011 compared to 2015 because of the RWC. I am assuming that tourist/international visitors would have spent more money in RWC compared to this year.

Historical Influences
Society In 2011, NZ hosted the RWC and everything elevated compared to what this year will be like, since its away in the UK. - New Zealander’s were more involved in it. - More tourist, meaning more money. - Media coverage in NZ was crazy and everywhere. - Kiwi rugby players were receiving various commercial sponsorships to increase RWC coverage and NZ products. Self Having the RWC in NZ in 2011 effected me because i was more involved in what was going on. I also saw a game (in the stadium) and watched multiple games on TV with my family. This year now that the RWC is in the UK i have found myself having very minimal information about what is going on.

Historical Influences
Others Due to my own research (survey monkey) I have found that 72.73% of my close community are less interested/involved in the Rugby World Cup this year compared to This effects the community because they are less likely to spend money on the Rugby World Cup (merchandise, pubs/bars). In 2011 the increase of media effected my the close community by encouraging 77.7% of people to get involved in the Rugby World Cup. I also found from my survey that 100% of my close community wont be flying over to the UK to watch one of the RWC games this year, however, 39.13% of people went to watch a RWC game in 2011 when it was here in NZ.

Economic Influences Society The 2011 home (New Zealand) RWC created a huge increase of our economics RWC boosted the tourist spendings by quarter of a billion dollars Excluding air fares international visitor’s overall spendings was up by $168 million to $5.8 billion In total 133,000 tourists had ticked on their arrival cards that they came to New Zealand for the Rugby World Cup. bonanza-or-bust m was spent on transport, including tickets. bonanza-or-bust - A huge surge in food and alcohol imports. In the four months imports of beer rose by more than 250% from South Africa, 50% from Britain and 20% from Australia. bonanza-or-bust

Economic Influences Self The economic rise in 2011, caused by the RWC effected me because having 133,000 tourist coming to NZ just for the RWC causes everything to get busier i.e. restaurants, transport etc. This made the NZ environment hard for me because I enjoy having my own space and having an over crowded bus or restaurant makes me nervous and uncomfortable. I also found that during the RWC season businesses (shops, restaurants etc) were putting their prices up. This effected me because it made most this unaffordable. Others My close community will effected by the economy during this years RWC in both a positive and negative way. Negative - There will be less tourist meaning that less money will be coming into the community. Positive - There will be less tourist meaning store prices wont be going up just to accommodate to the opportunity to raise earn more money (as it did in 2011) Due to my survey I have found that 19 out of the 28 others in my close community said that “Yes” they think that NZ’s economy will be missing out on money because the RWC being away in the UK instead of here. Majority of their answers were backed up by the statement that “Less tourist will travel to NZ and spend their money, therefore, boosting their economy”, however, the other 9 people who said no had roughly the same statement that “No, because it is extremely expensive to host the RWC”. I am assuming that majority of the members of my community answered this question (Do you think New Zealand’s economy is missing out on money this year now that the Rugby World Cup is away in the Uk. If so why?) having information on how the RWC went economically in 2011 when NZ hosted.
