Sacrament that gives a couple the grace to love each other
Together, a married couple help each other to:
Raise children
Build up the Church and society
Sacrament of Service (the other is Holy Orders)
1 man & 1 woman commit to love & serve one another

5. Review - Sacraments Reconciliation (also called Penance or Confession)
God forgives sins committed after Baptism (absolution)
We are reconciled with him and the Church
Sacrament of Healing (the other is Anointing of the Sick)
Three requirements:
We must be truly sorry (contrition)
We must confess the sin to a priest – represents Jesus
We must do penance – show God how sorry we are

Sacrament of Initiation (with Eucharist & Confirmation)
Frees us from sin
Become children of God
Become members of Christ and his Church

Means “thanksgiving”
Reminds us that Jesus sacrificed his life for us
Bread and wine transformed into Jesus’s body and blood (transubstantiation)
Not just a symbol, but the real thing!
We must be in a state of grace
Not aware of mortal sin on your soul

Sacrament of Healing (Reconciliation is the other)
Receive grace to bear suffering and fight illness
Reduces anxiety and fear
Receive grace to unite self to Jesus’ suffering & death

Liturgy (LIT-er-jee) is the Church’s official public worship
First and foremost it refers to the celebration of the Eucharist
It also includes the other sacraments
Rituals in which we meet Christ and receive grace
Liturgy originally meant “a public work” or a service on behalf of the people
For us it means our participation in the work of God
We (the Church) are God’s people and his tools to make the world holy

In the Eucharist, God’s sanctification of us and our worship of him reach their high point.
Eucharist is:
Thanksgiving and praise to the Father;
Sacrificial memorial of Christ and his Body;
Representation of Christ's suffering, death, and resurrection; and
the Real Presence of Christ by the power of his Word and of his Spirit.
