1 Overview Some useful presentations: Public overview – coffee meeting
Operational aspects Section meeting of 1st March 2016 And all User Meetings and EAM (see HiRadMat indico) Transnational Access Final annual meeting Final report – in the pipeline (to be found at Essential information available at there are no hidden/restricted documents (action: simply EDMS context) and I have some personal comments in this presentations … 25/4/2017 A. Fabich

2 A. Fabich EN-EA-LE retreat 2017
HiRadMat at CERN-SPS A. Fabich EN-EA-LE retreat 2017

3 Fiona Harden New team member Fellow in EN/EA on R2E and HiRadMat
since April 2017 - One fellow is great - one (tech.) student at a time would have a great opportunity EA-EC support available, needs to be secured Update EDMS “HiRadMat Facility management” 25/4/2017 A. Fabich

4 Transnational Access EU FP7 finances travel/accommodation for HRM users external to CERN. Great support from CERN-EU office, particularly Sabrina! clarified/improved visitor registration in preparation 288 user days at CERN enabled through HiRadMat in FP7 25/4/2017 A. Fabich

5 ARIES Successor to EuCARD2 EU proposal submitted in 2016
ARIES WP10 is split across two tasks: Task 10.1 – HiRadMat Task 10.2 – UNILAC (GSI) Approved from May 2017 for 4 years 100 kEUR (-10 kEuro for Sabrina) CERN operational budget about kCHF/year Transnational Access TNA counting is different from EuCARD2 200 beam hours (HRM cycle in the super-cycle) promised 5 experiments, 5 shifts/experiment, 8 hours/shift 2016: FlexMat, Jaws, TDIcoat, MultiMat, RotColl For all experiments: assure at least one publication For TNA supported experiments: relevant publication with ARIES acknowledgment 25/4/2017 A. Fabich

6 Usually beam time in envisaged week, back-up in the following week.
No experimental installation in TNC/TT61 – time reserved for shut-down works First experiments installed by week 17, before LHC start-up BTV ATLAS pixel RotColl TaScat, CRY2, TCDI, TDIcoat FlexMat SextSC MultiMat Backup+ Usually beam time in envisaged week, back-up in the following week. 25/4/2017 A. Fabich

7 TCDI, LHC collimator, highest priority
New BTV screen Essential for ALL experiments To be commissioned Initially with low intensity possible First HRM beam action in 2017 TCDI, LHC collimator, highest priority Delay beyond week 21 will impact on overall HRM schedule TCDI, RotColl, TDIcoat and MultiMat rely on highest pulse intensities (Draft slide to IEFC) No experimental installation in TNC/TT61 – time reserved for shut-down works First experiments installed by week 17, before LHC start-up BTV ATLAS pixel RotColl TaScat, CRY2, TCDI, TDIcoat FlexMat SextSC MultiMat Backup+ 25/4/2017 A. Fabich

8 BTV camera in TT61 New from 2017 BTV mounted on Table A for testing
Camera placed in TT61 Dedicated feed-through already available Space to be shared with HS cameras/LDV For integration see with Aymeric/Vincent All hardware available Box, screens+mechanism, FT window, TT61 setup+camera Vacuum tests in week 16 Survey/installation in week 17 25/4/2017 A. Fabich

9 HiRadMat User Day Work shop at CERN in June 2016, supported by EuCARD2
~50 participants with TNA users from Czechia, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and USA Follow-up the scientific achievements from former experiments Identification of additional research subjects additionally to the ones already established. Assessed wish list of facility upgrades Some implemented within recent months E.g. BTV screen for beam monitoring at experiment possible from this year Larger items like physical separation of HiRadMat operation and LHC filling is financially difficult Detailed summary in EDMS BTV + containment 25/4/2017 A. Fabich

10 Assure LIU operation Beyond LS2 Upgrade of beam diagnostics
Secured window performance SPS2HRM HRM2dump Adapt dump layout 25/4/2017 A. Fabich

11 HiRadMat coordination
Applying for beam time All proposals/safety files available at Beam time application Experiments are recommended by the HiRadMat Scientific Board Scientific interest of the experiment, feasibility and post-irradiation analysis Expected results and publications to the interest of the scientific community Approval validated by the HiRadMat Technical Board Integration, operational and safety aspects, radiation protection and waste management So far we could assign beam time to all approved experiments ATSMB HiRadMat coordination EATM, IEFC Operation Experiments feed-back? Beams BE/OP Scientific Board User proposals Facility EN/EA HSE/RP EN/HE Techn. Board Regular meetings for daily operation: Experimental Area management with CERN groups Users meeting (with video conferencing) 25/4/2017 A. Fabich

12 Feed-throughs Between TT61 and TNC
Improving the signal quality at read-out Successfully used by all experiments in 2015 25/4/2017 A. Fabich

13 Publication by Nikos Electronics in TT61
During LS1, new location in TT61 with feed-through to TNC for direct cabling used by all experiments Specifications Maximum cable length/optical path: 15 m From electronics to target center Optical path each up- and downstream Similar prompt radiation levels as in TJ7 bunker Thick target, 3e12 ppp 10e6 hadrons/cm2 for full intensity pulse no Bat/RadMon available Additional shielding implemented (September 2015): concrete replaced by iron, radiation shielding more than a factor 10 Optional counter measures: Increase distance (additional optical path/cable length) old configuration Publication by Nikos 25/4/2017 A. Fabich

14 Injectors to HiRadMat in 2015
Accumulated SPS cycle time: 4.0 days Total intensity extracted: 3.7e15 pot Excellent performance of the injectors providing beams with large flexibility, in the largest intensity range for multi-bunch pulses. All planned beams provided. 2012: 2 days, 1.4e16 pot Courtesy V. Kain 25/4/2017 A. Fabich

15 Dismantling WANF – 2nd stage
An tremendous work was done during clearing for HiRadMat Now aiming a big step further Dismantling WANF 2nd stage – DW2 Project goal put WANF downstream TNC into safe and clean state recuperate unnecessary material including activated items until LS2/LS3 Technical documents HRM-EAM 16/11/16 EDMS overview EDMS disk recuperation (failed so far) 25/4/2017 A. Fabich
