Iodine The body uses iodine to synthesize thyroid hormones.
Developing babies need iodine for proper growth and development, especially for brain and skeletal development. Too much iodine can cause the same symptoms as hypothyroidism. Too little iodine during pregnancy is the most common cause of preventable mental retardation. Too little iodine during pregnancy has also been linked to development of ADHD in children.

Pregnant Women/Teens: 220 mcg Breastfeeding Women/Teens: 290 mcg Adults (14+ years) : 150 mcg Infants 0-6 months: 110 mcg Infants 7-12 months: 130 mcg Children 1-8 years: 90 mcg Children 8-13: 120 mcg
