The Carthaginians arrived to the Iberian peninsula in 5th century B.C. 2.Why did they arrive to the Iberian Peninsula? They came to the Iberian Peninsula to trade some goods as silver,salt,fish…with te Celts and Iberians. 3.Where did they come from? The Carthaginians came from Carthage,a North African trading outpost. 4.Name some important colonies in the Iberian Peninsula . Important colonies:Ebussus(Ibiza),Carthago Nova(Cartagena),Saguntum(Sagunto). 5.What did they bring/introduce to the Iberian Peninsula? The Carthaginians introduced wine and olive oil.

They arrived around the year 640 B.C. 2.Why did they arrive to the Iberian Peninsula? They arrived because of commercial interests. 3.Where did they come from? They came from the Aegean island of Samos. 4.Name some important colonies in the Iberian Peninsula. Emporion(Ampurias) and Rhodes(Rosas) 5.What did they bring/introduce to the Iberian Peninsula? They introduced jewellery and coins, other personal effects such as glass objects and household goods as pottery. In addition, it is to the Greeks that we owe the name Iberia.

They arrived from the beginning of the 8th century B.C. 2.Why did they arrive to the Iberian Peninsula? They arrived to southern Spain because this area was rich in silver, gold and copper (extracted in the Sierra Morena and transported to Gadir down the Guadalete river).Gadir(Cádiz). 3.Where did they come from? They came from Tyre, in southern Lebanon. 4.Name some important colonies in the Iberian Peninsula. Chorreras,Morro de Meztequilla,Toscanos,Malaka(Málaga) and Cerro del Villar. 5.What did they bring/introduce in the Iberian Peninsula? The colonists conducted intense commerce with the indigeneous inhabitants.They also developed manufactures,such as purple-dyed textiles,as well as salted fish.
