1 6.2.5 Multiplying Decimals 6.2.6 Dividing Decimals

2 Multiplying Decimals by Whole Numbers
Step #1: Multiply as you would with whole numbers Step #2: Count the number of places to the RIGHT of the decimal point Step #3: Insert the decimal point into the answer so the SAME number of places are to the RIGHT of the decimal point

3 Multiplying by Powers of 10
Simply move the decimal point to the RIGHT the SAME number of ZEROS as there are in the power of 10

4 Your Turn! 8.32 x 9 7.10 x 10 .016 x 3

5 Multiplying Decimals Step #1: Multiply as you would with whole numbers Step #2: Count the number of places to the RIGHT of EACH decimal point Step #3: Insert the decimal point into the answer the TOTAL number of places that are to the RIGHT of each decimal point

6 Your Turn! 8.1 x 5.6 6.32 x .09 1.785 x .2 BONUS: x 1.9

7 Dividing Decimals by Whole Numbers
Step #1: Place the decimal point in the quotient DIRECTLY ABOVE the decimal point in the dividend Step #2: Divide as you would whole numbers

8 Dividing Decimals by Decimals
Step #1: Move the decimal point of the divisor (the number outside the box) to the RIGHT the number of spaces needed to make it a whole number Step #2: Move the decimal point of the dividend (the number inside the box) to the RIGHT the SAME number of spaces as the divisor Step #3: Divide as normal

9 Your Turn! TIP: Say the problem out loud. The number that follows the phrase “divided by…” is the number that goes OUTSIDE the box. 9.6 ÷ 1.2 ÷ 2.3 57.8 ÷ 3.4
