Lesson 4: People and Places Settlements in the Middle East The first people settled wherever they could find water. Therefore, many people settled between Tigris and Euphrates in Mesopotamia. First town and cities in Mesopotamia were Nineveh, Ashur, Babylon, and Uruk.
