1 “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” Hosea 4:6

2 2 Kings 22: Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the secretary, “I have found the Book of the Law in the temple of the Lord.” He gave it to Shaphan, who read it. 9 Then Shaphan the secretary went to the king and reported to him…10 Then Shaphan the secretary informed the king, “Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.” And Shaphan read from it in the presence of the king. 11 When the king heard the words of the Book of the Law, he tore his robes. 12 He gave these orders to Hilkiah the priest, … 13 “Go and inquire of the Lord for me and for the people and for all Judah about what is written in this book that has been found. Great is the Lord’s anger that burns against us because those who have gone before us have not obeyed the words of this book; they have not acted in accordance with all that is written there concerning us.”

3 The diminishing importance among those who seek to follow Jesus for knowing, maintaining, and defending sound doctrine.

4 It doesn’t matter what you believe… as long as you believe in Jesus.

5 1 Corinthians 1:10 (NASB-U) Now I exhort you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all agree and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be made complete in the same mind and in the same judgment.

6 John 17:20-21 (NASB) 20 "I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; 21 that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me.

7 It doesn’t matter what you believe, as long as you have "a personal relationship with Jesus Christ."

8 John 14:15 - 15 "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.

9 2 Tim 3: All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work. English Standard Version 2 Peter 1: Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet's own understanding, 21 or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God. Holy Bible, New Living Translation.

10 Acts 2:42 "continually devoting themselves to the apostles' [doctrine] teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer." Webster's Random House Dictionary, the word "doctrine" means, "a body or system of teachings relating to a particular subject." In short, doctrine is teaching.

11 Acts 5:28 the high priest in Jerusalem accused the apostles of having "filled Jerusalem with their doctrine." Our obedience to the gospel in Romans 6:17 is referred to as our obeying a certain "form of doctrine." 1 Timothy 4:13 - "Until I come, give attention to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation and doctrine."

12 1 Timothy 1:10. "law is not made for a righteous man, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers and immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liars and perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine."

13 2 Timothy 4:3 Paul wrote to Timothy to "preach the word", because the time would come when people would no longer endure "sound doctrine." 2 Tim. 4:2-3 (NASB-U) preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction. [3] For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, (I think those times have come!)

14 Mark 7 and Matthew 15, "But in vain do they worship Me, teaching as their doctrine the commandments of men."

15 God has forbidden man to add to or take away from His word.
Deut 4: “You shall not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor take away from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you. NASU Deut 12: "So be careful to obey all the commands I give you. You must not add anything to them or subtract anything from them. Holy Bible, New Living Translation. Prov 30:5-6 - "Every word of God has proven to be true. He is a shield to those who come to him for protection. 6 Do not add to his words, or he will reprimand you, and you will be found to be a liar. (from GOD'S WORD)

16 1 Timothy 4:1"doctrines of demons" - forbidding marriage and advocating abstaining from certain foods.

17 Gen 3:3-4 - ‘You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die
Gen 3:3-4 - ‘You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.’” 4 The serpent said to the woman, “You surely will not die…” 1 Timothy 6:3, "If anyone advocates a different doctrine, and does not agree with sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine conforming to godliness, he is conceited and understands nothing..."

18 Hebrews 13:9 (NASB-U) Do not be carried away by varied and strange teachings (doctrines); …

19 The doctrine that doctrine is unimportant is itself a doctrine!

20 The Person Who Does Not Abide In The Doctrine of Christ Is Without God.
“Anyone who goes too far and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ, does not have God..." 2 John 1: "Anyone who goes too far and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ, does not have God; the one who abides in the doctrine, he has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house, and do not give him a greeting; for the one who gives him a greeting participates in his evil deeds."

22 Christ's Doctrine Is Truth and It Alone Will Set Men Free.
John 8: Jesus therefore was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, "If you abide in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." The NIV puts that verse this way: "If you hold to my teaching [doctrine], you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

24 Walking By Faith Is Walking By Doctrine.
"If you hold to my teaching [doctrine], you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

25 In what or whom am I to place my faith?
"In Jesus," says my walking-by-faith friend. OK. To what source should I go to learn about Jesus? "The Bible, you nitwit!" he says. BUT, I can't do that because according to you that is walking by sight.

26 "Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man's enemies will be the members of his household."

27 Romans 10:17 - (NASB-U) So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.
Proverbs 14:12 warns us: "There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death."

28 The Doctrine of Christ Will Be the Basis of Judgment.
Ezekiel 3:17-19: "Son of man, I have appointed you a watchman to the house of Israel; whenever you hear a word from My mouth, warn them from Me. When I say to the wicked, 'You shall surely die'; and you do not warn him or speak out to warn the wicked from his wicked way that he may live, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand."

29 2 Tim 4:1-5: "I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires; and will turn away their ears from the truth, and will turn aside to myths."

30 John 12: "And if anyone hears My sayings, and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. He who rejects Me, and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day."
