2. Background
Studies have documented high burden of HIV among MSM in low- and middle-income countries
In Nigeria, an increasing HIV prevalence among MSM has been observed in the last two rounds of Integrated Biological & Behavioral Surveillance Survey (IBBSS) (13.5% in 2007 & 17.2% in 2010)
Behavioral roles among MSM are important factors in HIV spread
Little is known about HIV infection attributable to sexual behavioral roles among MSM in Nigeria
This study examined correlates of HIV infection among MSM in six states in Nigeria

3. Methods We analyzed data from the second round of IBBSS

Between April – May, 2010, 1, 545 MSM aged years were recruited through the Respondent Driven Sampling (RDS) technique in six Nigerian states
A structured questionnaire was administered through face-to face interviews
Blood specimen collected and tested for HIV
Multivariable logistic regression was implemented in STATA to determine correlates of HIV infection

8. Conclusion
This study showed a relatively high prevalence of HIV and sexual risk behavior among sampled MSM
Inconsistent condom use indicates that HIV transmission among this group is likely to continue unabated and thus must be addressed
Differences in HIV prevalence amongst MSM engaging in receptive and penetrative anal sex suggests
targeted behavioral and biomedical interventions tailored to the specific sexual roles are urgently needed
