Accelerator project organization: An organization structure has been set up. This is based on one organigramme where the roles and the responsibilities are defined The technical coordinator, the accelerator division and technical division leaders are identified Possibility to hire experts or young researchers Possibility to travel Contacts for MoUs And: Integration of a SASE FEL facility in the LINAC (M.Ferrario talk). This replace the Synchrotron beamlines. Request to produce in a very short delay a preliminary costing based on the ‘frozen’ CDR design

4 STATUS The machine has been studied in principle  CDR 1&2. We need an engineering document (TDR), a complete layout and the integration of the machine A long road. We need a lot of work to have a TDR in limited time. It is possible to work in parallel and produce an engineering report with a final footprint, without the production designs (that will come later) We need expert manpower and a good organization To have this we must be fully supported by the INFN accelerators expertise. We need also to sign MoUs with different institutes. We need to hire experts and researchers. In this context the Cabibbolab workability is crucial. EVERYTHING can be done, with hard work, provided the expertise and the motivation We need strong political support MOTIVATION: I think that we have a wonderful project and an incredible opportunity window. Only this should boost our motivations EXPERTISE: Collaboration between the best labs in the world. I personally think that the expertise present in INFN represent an absolute excellence WORK: Comes with motivation, support and organization

6 Costing organisation:
Set up the experts team The work is based on a document. We defined its structure and his methodology A complete WBS file has been produced to integrate the different equipment costs For all the systems the experts are presently sending their documents describing their methodology, the kind of price estimates, the risks and the needed manpower. This will be integrated in the final document We had a ‘status’ meeting middle of may and one final meeting will take place 14th-15th June Costing, costing and costing….for this reason the participation in Elba is been reduced

The document is complete and extremely professional. Thanks to all the INFN and IN2P3 (LAL, LPSC) staff that participated

8 What is the progress INFN request : costing based on the CDR lattice and technical solutions (error bar) in a very short delay (autumn – minister review) So from two months the costing has been our religion We have organized one team of people already working on SuperB and other INFN ‘volunteers’ and start the work to be ready the 15th of June A WBS consisting in more than 1600 elements has been created A international experts committee has been individuated to give an advice on the costing document (chair Gabriele Fioni – DSM/CEA France) Request for ‘key in a hand’ systems (Linac, DR). Based on performances and technical specifications

9 TDR Organisation TDR Goal: 1) Precise cost 2) Identify the R&D needs
3) Produce a machine layout 4) Froze the technological choices and the design 5) Have a precise planning Coordination : Groups and WG For TDR : to do list for main rings and Injectors WGs coordinated by Groups, they have a clear mandate Tasks flow chart (see next slide) Identification of the possible available and proposed manpower Fast reaction for MoUs and collaborations Fast and good : Start immediately after the costing =>t0 If the expert manpower is available and the organization works: TDR 1 V1 Lattice and machine footprint in few months TDR 2  Close the lattice and integration at least one year

13 Dafne status vs SuperB Dafne and luminosity
Present results are not relevant for the validation of Crab Waist. It would be important and useful to use DAFNE as a facility to study for instance the parametric dependences of the CW dynamics. This could be done on the basis of a shared scientific program during all the period from now to Superb completion. Need Manpower and the consensus of the INFN, LNF and the team

15 - Efficiency in management and administration
Planning is a ‘professionals’ work, requiring the analysis of a lot of parameters. This has to be done to have a precise estimation of the realizations period. Nevertheless … : If ALL THE CONDITIONS are in place we estimate that, with a success oriented planning, we can have beams in 6 years. 15th June can be the t0. - SuperB is a major accelerator project: - Efficiency in management and administration - Strong manpower support form INFN - Collaborations - Coherence
