1 Lesson 8: Hot Topics and Review
Throughout this course we have explored the many ways in which Small Business Senior Leaders are distinct from other professionals, such as Small Business Professionals (SBPs) and other senior leaders. You must think and act differently to be successful. We have looked at how you need to engage in strategic planning, manage your office, develop and manage your relationships, consider communication, and understand established and emerging authorities and issues. In this final lesson, we will look more closely at where the rubber meets the road around some hot topics and current issues in the small business world. We will host a panel discussion and question-and-answer (Q&A) session with some experienced Small Business Senior Leaders and Senior Acquisition Officials.

6 Hot Topics in the Changing Landscape of SB
As we noted in Lesson 5, the small business landscape is constantly changing. New authorities, policies, and procedures are emerging all the time, and the industry environment is also evolving. As Small Business Senior Leaders you must be aware of and part of these processes. You must also be prepared to address any challenges that you might encounter. Today we will be hearing about some of these processes and emerging issues from experienced Small Business and Acquisition Senior Leaders. You will also have the opportunity to ask some questions of the panelists. You may have questions about the topics they discussed, or you may have other questions from the course. This is your opportunity to draw on their experience. SBP 301: Small Business for Senior Leaders Lesson 8: Hot Topics and Review

John Kotter “Leadership isn’t mystical and mysterious. It has nothing to do with having ‘charisma’ or other exotic personality traits. It is not the province of a chosen few.” Earlier in the course, we reviewed John Kotter’s article, What Leaders Really Do. He reminds us that: “Leadership isn’t mystical and mysterious. It has nothing to do with having ‘charisma’ or other exotic personality traits. It is not the province of a chosen few.” Leadership is a set of skills that can be learned, practiced, and developed. This course is only one important step in that process, and you now have additional resources you can use to continue your journey. Don’t forget about your leadership partners and the other relationships that you have developed in this class. You can continue to draw on this wealth of experience and expertise once you return to your workplace. SBP 301: Small Business for Senior Leaders Lesson 8: Hot Topics and Review
