AGENDA ITEM 7.3 – INLAND ENC
Agenda Item 7.3/Doc MACHC A Focus on challenges and peculiarities of Brazilian Inland ENCs . Action Item Brazil to engage other countries in the MACHC region and other RHCs to develop a platform in the area of Inland ENC (IENC).

AGENDA ITEM 7.3 – INLAND ENC
13th Annual Meeting Nanjing/China, OCT2015, with the assistance of USA, China, Brazil and Europe representatives. Industry representatives also took part – Technical Coordinators; 14th Annual Meeting Manaus/Brazil, OCT 2016 Cancelled. AGENDA ITEM 7.3 – INLAND ENC
Key points were discussed in 2015: updates on IENC activities in global scale (USA, Europe, Brazil , China), review and acceptance of change requests, status of IHO S-100, S-99 and S-101 development, IEHG participation in S-100 Registry, the future alignment with IHO S-100 based standards and IEHG S-401 developments (future Inland ENC Product Specification).

AGENDA ITEM 7.3 – INLAND ENC
• Why Inland ENC? ― The easiest solution to ensure full compatibility with maritime Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) would be to use the worldwide maritime standards for Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs). But sometimes that’s not possible: traffic on inland waterways is not regulated by the maritime Collision Prevention Rules (COLREG), but by regional regulations. Objects such as bridges can only be encoded in a very basic form for maritime ENCs, but are extremely important for inland navigation. An adaptable product for waterway navigation

• The work flow with HPD, for example, turns the updating easier and faster, in comparison to paper chart products, mainly in rivers with a high rate of changing.

AGENDA ITEM 7.3 – INLAND ENC
• Brazil Developing technical + operational minimum requirements for the system: ― Regional aspects must be observed. • Discussions on going at IEHG, so as to develop the future Inland ENC Product Specification: IEHG S-401 Inland ENC. • Encourage the participation of other countries on IEHG (Colombia, Venezuela, …). Establish common requirements in a common platform, so as to present to other countries as a suggestion (+stakeholders).
