Why a Strategic Plan? Large expected population and employment growth in North Texas region Severe and growing congestion not solvable through roadway improvements alone Negative air quality effects of high auto use and congestion Need for affordable transportation alternatives Ensure positive economic impact of transit to community Over 10 million people in region by (Source: NCTCOG)

November 2009 – TRTC presentation/survey January 2010 – Household phone survey Accepting input at The T website since January Several input sessions for stakeholder groups and employees in April and May Public meetings in April

Transportation Service to broad cross-section of Tarrant County & beyond Service that customers can use for work, school, shopping, recreation & other uses Service that is considered customer-focused, safe, and reliable

Timeliness Improve travel time through express services with attractive frequency Reduce congestion by being competitive with auto in travel time Implement projects expeditiously to meet growing travel demand

Technology Enhance customer experience through simple trip planning & real-time information Create on-demand services in appropriate areas to improve efficiency Continuously research new developments to improve service quality and efficiency

Tomorrow in the Region Build and operate SW-2-NE and additional regional rail lines in Tarrant County & beyond Provide improved TRE service Establish additional park-and-ride express bus services to major employment Increase usage of vanpool program Increase area served by The T

Tomorrow in the Community
Create enhanced bus corridors to provide trunk service and link transit centers Improve geographic coverage, service hours, and frequency of local bus service Create new bus transit centers as service area expands

Tomorrow in your Neighborhood
Operate a modern streetcar system to serve the central core of Fort Worth Develop flexible, on-demand services in low density areas to efficiently meet demand Create car sharing & bicycle rental programs at transit centers to improve access

Enhancements for Tomorrow
Significantly increase number of passenger shelters and benches throughout service area Improve perceived and actual safety and security on vehicles and at stations Coordinate with other providers in region to create seamless regional system

Technology for Tomorrow
Improve information on services and implement online trip planning Provide real-time data on services at transit facilities, online, and through smartphones Reduce emissions/improve fuel economy of transit vehicles through new technologies

Challenges Current revenue streams are inadequate for implementation of plan Political challenges for expanding service area Current facilities for bus and rail operations and maintenance are inadequate for service build out
