2 Sketch/write #4 Read the article on Copyright Protection Law on the website today and answer the following. (15 points) 1. What can be copyright protected? 2. When does copyright protection begin? 3. Do you have to register your work with the U.S. Copyright Office to actually claim ownership? 4. How can you prove your digital art (jpeg, png, gif) was created by you? 5. How do you write a copyright statement? What does it include? 6. What does the date on the copyright statement refer to? 7. How long is intellectual and artistic property protected by copyright? 8. Is the Internet public domain? 9. "Ignorance of the Law does not make one exempt from compliance thereof." Explain what this quotation means. Next, explain what this quotation means for you as a student in Imaging class. 10. What can you do to obtain permission to use someone else’s copyrighted material? After you obtain permission can you claim copyright yourself? 11. Can original fonts and wingdings have a copyright? Why or why not? 12. Can you claim ownership/copyright of anything taken from public domain or royalty free websites/stock photo sites? Why or why not? 13. If you manipulate a stock photo from a royalty free site, can you claim ownership? Why or why not? 14. Explain what is “fair use”. 15. When you use someone else’s material/property in fair use what do you have to do, otherwise you have committed plagiarism?

3 Log in Procedure: Logging in to your personal H drive:
Click on the blue drive at the right side of the doc with 3 people on it. It say “StuHome” A dialog box appears. Enter your username (last name first initial last 4 digits of SI) and password (you should have changed your password to 7 characters or less on a school PC) Click OK. A dialogue box appears again. Select Stuhome Click OK. You are now logged in to your personal H drive only.

Group Project Power point presentation: 1 Title slide with the name of the element/principle and the names of the group members 1 slide with a brief written definition of your element/principle IN YOUR OWN WORDS 4 images that illustrate your element/principle -include the title of the image and artist Bibliography Slide: artist, title, web host/name, URL, date of access Oral explanation of each image and how it supports your element/principle -you may write a brief sentence explaining each image as cues for your oral presentation in bullet points. PARAPHRASE

5 PS Assignment #1: Veggie Portrait or Edible Architecture
Create a face or architecture by selecting individual vegetables and removing them from their backgrounds. Move them, duplicate them etc. Requirements: Clean selections: Remove images with selection Tools, magic wand, eraser 2) Transformation of objects: Size/scale Hue/saturation Rotation Duplication TITLE this document “your last name_veggie.psd” and save in your H drive.

Use of 5 or more different images Transformation of objects in the following ways: Size/scale Hue/saturation Rotation, warp, distort, etc. Opacity (in layers) --use any images on practice files, or go to freedigitalphotos.net, or gettyimages.com --Must have a background color or image. TITLE the document “your last name_montage.psd” SAVE both your veggiehead and the montage in your student home -- make a folder called “Imaging Practice” Files”
