CREATING A PROGRAMME OF STUDY LEVEL 2: BEAUTY Decisions on work experience could be dependent on progression/delivery at Level 1 to give the individual ‘experience’ of a working environment, and/or plans if the individual progresses to Level 3 when work experience can be used as the step into employment. Programmes using GSCE will require substantially more planned hrs with an avg 110 planned hrs for each element (English/math's) Note: Where the leaner does have GSCE grades A*-C then other options need to be considered for planned hours Programme of Study- Qual/QAN number GLHs (on LARA) Substantial ‘Core’ Qualification (50% of POS) 500/9076/8 Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy( ) 468 glh Functional skills (example) Could do Entry 3 if required ( X) Functional skills- English L1 (500/9319/8) - c36-50glh c45 Could do Entry 3 if required ( ) Functional skills – Math L1 (501/0986/8) – c36-50glh Work Experience Work experience carried out by external employers – could assume 12hrs/week over two weeks if used as an option n/a Non Accredited training Entitlement (Tutorial) Tutorials and non –accredited training support, to prepare the individual for work or progression (could be Simulated /RWE but classified as non qualification activity Decision made base on individual needs Employability (options available) or Additionality (smaller relevant qualification) Employability skills could be considered as part of individual needs Total hours Flexibility for total glh can be made through work experience/ non accredited activity 558 + any planned non qualification activity as appropriate © CITY & GUILDS

LEVEL 3: BEAUTY In this example it looks at how a Level 3 qualification is the core aspect of delivery. It assumes the individual as now achieved the GSCE requirements, the essence is now that next step into employment Note: Where the leaner still requires FS/GSCE grades then other options need to be considered for planned hours Programme of Study- Qual/QAN number GLHs (on LARA) Substantial ‘Core’ Qualification (50% of POS) 500/8957/2 Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy Techniques 521 glh Functional skills/GCSE - English Functional skills/GCSE requirements have been achieved n/a (unless resits required) Functional skills /GSCE – Math’s Work Experience Work experience carried out by external employers – assume 12hrs/week over two weeks 24 (Band 1 Code - Z ) Non Accredited training Entitlement (Tutorial) Tutorials and non –accredited training support to prepare the individual for work or progression (could be Simulated /RWE but classified as non qualification activity Decision made base on individual needs Employability (options available) or Additionality (smaller relevant qualification) Employability skills could be considered as part of individual needs Total hours Flexibility for total glh can be made through work experience/ non accredited activity 545 + any planned non qualification activity as appropriate © CITY & GUILDS

EXAMPLE LEVEL 1 TEMPLATE Under the latest Government actions, full time learners will be required to be on a programme that is no less than 540 Guide Learning Hours for a full time programme, with 600 being the optimum, although they can be larger and self funded above this level.
