MapActions training as evolved as the organisation has grown.
We now have strategic objective to deliver more field deployment and more external training.
So will need to expand both our internal training and our external training offer.

4. Internal V external training
Key focus in the past has been internal volunteer training
Annual scenario training each May focuses on IM and increasingly including key operational partners – would like to expand this in the future
Internal training review now underway
Likely future focus on modular training – more scope for other organisation to attend and training module likely to be available online

5. External training
Lots of ad hoc training with a wide variety of partners UN – NGO – RC Very wide range of content from Database management and advanced specialist GIS to basic GE or PPT mapping. UNDAC UNICEF – Cameroon and Congo Humanitarian Mapping Course

Past training has been mostly ad hoc and bespoke
Reviewing what we do in the future
What can we offer?
What are the unmet needs to support humanitarian preparedness and response in the international, regional and national context?
How can this be resourced?

8. Key lessons and challenges
Need to train the right people in the right stuff. Need to be very clear as to the purpose of the training. One off training can be a waste of resources unless it is well target and the knowledge/skill are then used. Regular repeating training works much better than stand alone training.
