Students must arrive to school on time.
Expected to be in the classroom and working by 9:05am.
Students should enter the classroom quietly, courteously and with all materials needed for the day.

Please consider setting aside a small, quiet work space for your child at home to complete homework and daily reading.
The CREW Binder with Agenda is a valuable tool used by all fifth graders and should be considered an integral part of their homework.
Parents role should be supervisory in regard to homework.
Homework is the student’s responsibility.
Support your child’s out-of-school reading.

We will provide extensive, authentic reading experiences in the classroom.
As our students read more, the better readers they become, so too with writing. .

Did you know that fluency in writing is just as important as fluency in reading?
We will be giving students every opportunity to develop a love for writing.
The more children become comfortable with the process of generating ideas, and writing and revising their work, the better writers they will become.

11. Small Moment Writing
Students will be using small moments that matter to them as a spring board for their stories.
These small moments come from places in which our children have strong emotions.
Contentment (noticing the stars on a warm summer night).
Excitement (catching a fish with an uncle).
You can help your child develop a habit for observation.

You may notice that when we evaluate our student’s writing, we are not embarking on an error hunt.
We will be looking for mastery of the targeted skill.

Solving real world mathematical problems.
While solving problems, they will also be required to explain their thinking.
Mathematical discussion is imperative.
Students will be taught and expected to use traditional algorithms.
