10 Homework The children will come home with a homework diary in their book bags. This is a two way communication book. We will also use the diary to post the sight words and any homework based on the children’s interests we will be working on each week, for your information To make excellent progress, young children need constant reinforcement. For this reason your support is warmly welcomed.

11 Reading When the children have settled, they will come home with a reading book. The children will begin with picture books. This is a crucial stage in learning to read. Please take time to share the book with your child, making up stories by looking at the pictures. The books will be available outside the Reception classroom on Mondays and Thursdays where you can help your child to choose a book. When you have shared a book with your child please make a comment and sign the homework diary.

12 Phonics Although we are aware that the children start school with different experiences with regard to learning their sounds, all children will be following the Department for Education’s phonic scheme, Letters and Sounds. The sounds that we will be learning will be posted in the homework diary each week. To reinforce this learning, pupils will be sent home with handwriting sheets to practice with you.
