1 ANNUAL JSC SPACE SETTLEMENT DESIGN COMPETITION
Settlement Planned for Mercury

2 Friday Night, Introduction
This includes information about the weekend schedule. Followed by detailed information about the destination of the proposed settlement, Mercury.

4 Game to review information.

5 Students are randomly divided into groups of roughly 30-35
Students are randomly divided into groups of roughly The groups are given a couple of hours to get to know each other. By 10 PM groups are required to have their president and vice presidents identified. After a quick snack, groups resume meeting and planning. After moving to the JSC, “lights out” at 12:30 (well, closer to 1 AM)

6 Day 2 Up at 6:30, breakfast and drive to Building 9, Training Facility. Morning; Companies go to breakouts to gain information about specific aspects of the design of the settlement: *Health and Safety *Gravity *Food production *Budgeting *Physical aspects of the planet

8 After lunch After lunch, companies re- group. Different departments report about the morning training. Companies continue planning.

11 Later that night… We returned to the JSC. Companies continued to work.
Pizza and other snacks came about 1:00 AM. Companies worked all night.

13 Finally, Sunday morning
Companies were expected to submit proposal by 7:30 AM. 55 pages including graphics and budget break down. Following proposal, each company made their presentation.

16 One graphic caught the judges attention.

17 Presentations were followed with lunch
Presentations were followed with lunch. While judges deliberated, we were treated to a tour of the Rocket Park. The tour was provided by the original structural engineer for the Saturn V rocket, Norm Chaffee.

Aerospace Engineering, Robotics & Engineering Math Hollenstein Career & Technology Center There were approximately students. Of the 200, one company of win. Of those 30-35, eight are chosen to attend the Florida International Competition. Two of the final eight are from Hollenstein.
