Log on to Power school Search for a student and groups of students Use Stored Searches and Stored Selections View Log Entries View Alerts Have a general understanding of other student screens and Alerts Know at least 2 places to go to for Help

4 The Power School Website
It is web based – It can be accessed it from any computer with internet connection

5 Create a Desktop shortcut
Open powerschool website Right click on the site Select Create Shortcut select Yes

6 Login Procedure - If this is your first time
username;username Example = tparkinson;tparkinson Username = current computer login name User Name;Password

13 How to search/browse students
Using the Browse Option – Click on one of the links to execute specific, single-criteria searches. You can search by First letter of Last Name Grade level Gender Current Enrollment Current Selection

14 Search for… …all student in the __ grade …all the male students
… all the student whose last name begins with the letter ____ Re-select the current selection …all enrolled

Suppose you would like to find all of the students in your school whose first name is Timothy.

Every search command line is broken into three parts: field name - such as first_name or grade_level or DOB comparator - such as = search argument - in the example, Timothy is the search argument – what I want to find The general format is: [field name] [comparator] [search argument]

19 Field/Value Searching
Suppose you would like to find all of the students in your school whose first name is Tim. Type the following into the search box: first_name=timothy [field name] [comparator] [search argument]

20 Field/Value Searching
Using the Search option (field/value) PowerSchool stores student information in fields. For example: "first_name" field stores the students' first names. The "DOB" filed stores the students' date-of-birth.

Create a single list of students who are in: HS – 9th , 10th , and 11th grade MS – 7th,8th Grade AGI – 3rd, 4th 6th Grade PlE – K, 2nd Grade HS - grade_level in 9,10,11 MS - grade_level in 7,8 AGI - grade_level in 3,4,6 PLE - grade_level in 0,2

HS – search for all the boys in the 11th grade MS - Search for all the girls in the 8th grade AGI - Search for all the girls in the 6th grade PLE - Search for all the boys in the 2nd grade grade_level = 11;gender = m grade_level = 8;gender = f grade_level = 6;gender = f grade_level = 2;gender = m

31 How to Search by Birthday
To find a student or students that have a birthday on a specified date, use the *birthday search code. This code is always preceded with an asterisk. Birthdays (today) *birthday=today Finds all students whose birthday is today, matching only month and day. Birthdays (date) *birthday=5/1 Find all students whose birthday is May 1 Birthdays (range) *birthday>=5/1/99;*birthday<=5/31/99 Find all birthdays in May of 1999

32 ¨ Displaying Inactive students – “/”
Include non-active students. Use this “/” prefix to search across ALL students (ie, active and inactive). Example /Last_Name=Smith

34 How to Store Frequently Used Search Commands
You can store frequently-used searches instead of entering the same search command every time that you need to work with a particular group of students. After a search is stored, all other users on the same PowerSchool server can use all the stored searches listed on the stored search page.

35 Stored Searches From the Start Page, click on Stored Searches
Click New.

Enter the search command - just as you would in the Search Student's field on the PowerSchool start page. Click submit. #1 #2 #3

38 Stored Selections Create your selection Return to the Start page
Check to see if you have your selections Click on the sorted selection link 248 students selected

Select Log Entries under the Administration section of the side bar

Click on New To view a current Log Click the date

Medical Alerts are entered/edited on the Emergency/Medical page

Click on the Emergency/ Medical page Enter the alert If appropriate enter an Expiration Date Click Submit

Activity Pick a student and enter an Alert View the alert Go back and edit it Delete it
