IMPACT OF SOCIO-ECONOMIC RECOVERY FROM ACEH TSUNAMI DISASTER ON THE COMMUNITY LIVELIHOOD

INTRODUCTION The programme aims to support the development and stabilization of socio- economic in the post Aceh tsunami The objectives of this research were to evaluate the impact post reconstruction on the community livelihood which cover: Economic benefits from the reconstruction activities, and The community’s perception and satisfaction on the socio-econimic recovery process

RESEARCH Methodology This research was executed survey method
The survey covered 819 respondents, 33 villages in 5 districts of Aceh Province as follows: 3 villages in Banda Aceh City, 4 villages in Aceh Besar, 8 villages in Aceh Jaya, 2 villages in Pidie, 16 villages in Bireuen Questionnaire has been made and used as a tool to the impact post reconstruction on the community livelihood conditions at the present time compared to the conditions before the tsunami. The data gathered then analyzed with descriptive analysis.

THE RESEARCH FINDINGS The research findings indicated that post reconstruction which been running all this time has given positive effects on the community livelihood. This is indicated from: The improvement of the people means of livelihoods The shifting of people generated income to a better direction People access to financial institutions (Bank) has increased Improvement of household assets and vehicles ownerships. The community’s perception on economic conditions are perceived to be the same or better than before the tsunami The community’s satisfaction on the reconstruction process is good catagory

CONCLUSION The reconstruction process had a positive impact on the socio- economic living conditions of the individual households and communities. The survey indicates that peoples’ livelihoods have improved; middle class incomes of million per year have increased; access to financial institutions such as banks and number of loans has increased ownership of household assets and vehicles has increased; The community’s perception on economic conditions are perceived to be the same or better than before the tsunami The community’s perception on support provided by local governments in the reconstruction process are low. This is caused by the comprehensive post construction programmes provided by donor agencies and NGOs The community’s satisfaction on the recovery process is good catagory
