EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2017, the Human Resources Division on the 15TH Floor of the Beaudry Building, assumed responsibility for Teacher Assistants.

All inquiries regarding Teacher Assistants should be directed to the Human Resources Division at (213) or via All other classroom assistants, (i.e., Special Education Trainee/Assistant, Early Education Aide, Instructional Assistant, etc.) remain the responsibility of the Personnel Commission.

PRINCIPALS ARE STILL REQUIRED TO POST THE TEACHER ASSISTANT SENIORITY LIST BY SEPTEMBER 30, 2017

Teacher assistant SENIORITY
Review certified transcripts of all Teacher Assistants assigned to your site. (Use transcripts submitted for school year ending June 2017). Prepare a list, in descending order, of completed qualified college units along with hire date. Run report “HR085 TA Seniority”, to obtain each Teacher Assistants’ District date of hire.

ADDITIONAL TEACHER ASSISTANT LAY-0FF
If your school will need to close additional Teacher Assistant positions due to Budget cuts, remember that Teacher Assistant lay-offs are handled at the school site and guided by Article X of the Unit F contract. The lay-off order is determined by the Teacher Assistant seniority list. If you have questions, please contact your Senior Human Resources Representative.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS If you know a Teacher Assistant is not enrolled this semester, the TA should be released. Contact your Sr. HR Rep for assistance. If when reviewing seniority you find that an employee did not complete 12 units during the school year, contact your Senior HR Rep.

WHAT ABOUT TEACHER ASSISTANT BENEFITS
WHAT ABOUT TEACHER ASSISTANT BENEFITS? Eligible TAs have been advised and may enroll in District sponsored medical, dental, and vision as of 9/1/17. Budget questions about TA benefits should be directed to your Fiscal Specialist.
