37 2010 ACLS Guidelines Update
Emphasis on compression Push hard and fast Quality of compressions Early Defibrillation Waveform capnography Hypothermia for cardiac arrest

38 2015 ACLS Guidelines Update
Emphasis on compressions Push harder and faster 2 inches, /min No vasopressin – did not improve outcomes Hypothermia prehospital Target temperature now – 36C or 97F

39 Moderate Hypothermia AHA - cold saline fluid bolus not recommended
New protocol change Cold fluids only if ROSC Start fluids if temp >36C/97F No bolus – 150 ml/hr rate Repeat temp at hospital - Start cold fluids if temp >36C/97F – OR Tell physician that temp now > 36C/97F so cold fluids indicated if no time to hang fluids

40 Why continue hypothermia protocol?
Hypothermia now more highly recommended than 2010. If we hang cold fluids the hospital must either continue or stop cold fluids. EMS will continue to push hypothermia on hospitals because this is the best practice – It saves lives!
