Born in Atchison, Kansas on July 24, 1897
Amelia taught others how to fly planes and even wrote books on the subject. Inspired by Charles Lindberg, Amelia became interested in flying and bought her own airplane when she was only 25 years old. She was most famous for being the first woman to fly across the Atlantic alone. She set many records. Before flying solo across the Atlantic, she was the first woman to ever fly as a passenger across the Atlantic. She disappeared around Howland Island in her attempt to fly around the world. She was never found, though many boats and planes looked for her.
