1 Freshman 15

2 My Theme My theme for this course is, “college freshman’s’ diet habits and its relationship to weight gain.” I also want to figure out, how does college freshman’s’ diet lead to weight gain during their first year away at school (also known as “Freshman 15”)?

3 Why College Freshman? They break apart from the rules and regulations of their parents. They change their lifestyle from the parental guidance that they’ve lived their entire lives. As apposed to the normal dinner time at the family household, at school, students are presented with various food choices. They’re not told to eat certain things, they’re able to eat and drink whatever they want when they want it.

5 Alcohol One of the major causes of the freshman 15 is alcohol.
Beer is the common and the major factor for the weight gain. Mainly because of its empty calories and has less alcohol by volume. When there’s a party, there’s a 99.9% chance, in college, that there will be alcohol involved. May even end up being a keg party. Freshman tend to start their benders off with starting the weekend early. Going out on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. They might even continue there benders till Sunday, with the NFL games on T.V.. With late night partying, there’s also the “drunk munchies”, where students will eat anything they set there minds to.

6 Ways to Avoid The Freshman 15!
On paper, it sounds easy. But everyone in this day and age are completely different. The major tips on preventing the Freshman 15 are: Exercise Avoid eating unhealthy cafeteria food Avoid drinking excessive amounts of alcohol Avoid eating late at night Don’t keep unhealthy snacks in the dorm room.

7 Exercise Exercising regularly can be your best bet in fighting the freshman 15. Working out helps tone muscle and running helps burn fat and calories. All college students should do some sort of exercise daily! Gym’s at colleges and universities usually are free for all students, so you don’t have to worry about buying a gym membership. They can run and/or walk on the treadmill, ride the exercise bike, or other machines to help burn fat by doing cardio. They can weight lift to turn that fat into muscle.

8 Diet People think if they go to the gym they can just eat whatever they want. Proper diet is actually 80-90% of getting that beach bod everyone wants! Studies show that working out 4 to 5 times per week without eating properly does absolutely nothing for your weight loss and fitness goals. The 5 Rules of College Nutrition: Don’t eat processed dining hall foods. Never skip breakfast! Drink more water! Avoid calorie rich alcoholic drinks. Eat every 3 to 4 hours. (You cannot go hungry. Your body will think it is starving).
